This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Current gas milage: city 46, highway 51. Surprisingly comfortable. Easy drive and maneuverability. Good interior storage & glove boxes. Too much road noise unless all windows closed. Looking forward to seeing how hybrid evolve. Would buy this vehicle again (even tho is ugly). This is a one or two person car, 3 or 4 OK persons for short trips. Rear visibility poor. Would like more luggage room for long trips. Cruise, light and wiper controls need impovements--awkward to use. *Please note: reliability of vehicle unknown to me now. Will make judgement after longer ownership. Marked survey with a 5 because of unknowns.

Least gas milage 37.5, 42.4, 47.5,50/s to 60/s up to 68.8 Best gas milage, and this includes highway and hills. Speed up to 70,71,72,73,74+, you think you are doing 40 or 50, it is so smooth and quiet, you have to watch your speed. the first day I drove it, I was on 70 mile speed limit, interstate, and did not know how to operate cruise and did not want to go over 45 or 50 with a new car. Later on interstate, My wife said you are doing 70, later she said you are doing 75, and later she said you are now doing 81. I would not normally, go over 70 to 74 or 75 max. The speed limit is 70. I defintly learned how to use the cruise control. It has the best map system, and easily seats 4 people

The Prius has proven to be a fantastic purchase. My primary reasons for pursuing this particular vehicle were a) the savings on gas and b) the "geek factor". My expectations have been exceeded. At an average of 53 MPG, the car is very near to its EPA rating, especially considering the amount of highway driving I do. The "geek factor" is really what has won me over. Smart Key entry, touch screen controls, futuristic exterior and interior, LCD feedback; the list goes on. Overall, a wonderful buy.

Love it mechanically. The display monitor can not be read in daylight hours due to slope of windshield. There are reflections of air vents in both side view mirrors also a result of the windshield slope. Have written to Toyota about this and feel confident there will be a design correction in the future. I have not obtained more than 49.6 MPG in city driving. The smart entry system is great as well as the standard safety features.

After one year and a total of 70,000 miles, this car has had zero problems. Gas mileage averages between 50 and 53 mpg. Anyone who expected to get the old EPA estimate of 60 was naive. The car comes with an amazing amount of equipment (mine is package 4) for the price and has been a joy to own. The hybrid performance is almost totally transparent to the driver and the power is adequate. This is not a sports car and handling is not its strong suit, also the car is nervous in cross winds. These are minor issues though. Comfort, quiet operation, high tech goodies and great mileage. I drive the car for service calls all day and couldnt be more pleased. Thanks, Toyota!

Im a professional woman in the healthcare field who currently has to commute 60+ miles for patient and office visits...Ive owned my Prius for a month. As a "directionally challenged" woman Im now delighted with the direction from my GPS!! The gas milage is ... awesome: between 40-53 mpg. Its wonderful to no longer "feed" my auto more than my personal grocery bill!!! The Prius provides a smooth ride and is much larger in the interior than it appears.
