Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

mpg not what it seems - 2005 Toyota Prius
By DRJ - January 19 - 12:50 pmIts very deceptive advertising that the vehicle gets 60 mpg- in the NEast, consistently getting between 42-50 mpg: much poorer in the cold weather!

Late-in-life decision: Hybrid Purchase - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Lee Roach - January 17 - 11:36 amAt 78 years of age I had decided that buying a new vehicle was frivilous. After all, my 95 Lexus SC 300 5 Speed only had 50,000 original miles. However, after reading about the Prius I made a decision to buy sight unseen, and not having driven. It should be noted that cars have been my hobby throughout life, beginning with a 31 Chevy purchased for $15.00 as junior in high school. This Prius is fascinating, actually one is driving a computer, literally. They may be rare now, but it is the future until fuel cell cars arrive, which I may not see. 50 mpg is also fascinating, the envy of particularly SUV owners. And, it performs well - does everything it isasked to do.

Easy being green - 2005 Toyota Prius
By LRS - January 8 - 2:16 amMoving from a Mercedes Benz to a Hybrid was much easier than I thought. I dont mind giving up the German weight and ride as this Japanese import is so much fun to drive in such a different way.

Paradigm Change - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Hybrid Happy - January 8 - 1:40 amIm a high mileage driver and am saving nearly $300 a month on gas alone over my last car, an Infinity FX35, not to mention the much lower scheduled maintenance costs. This vehicle is in a class by inself and with over 20,000 miles in 7 months it gets better and better every time I drive it. The great interior room for such a small exterior size cant be beat by anything out there. Hard to understand why everyone isnt driving one of these. As gas prices continue to raise Toyota is going to put the big hurt on the BIG Three and the day will come when valets and car wash guys wont even remember when you turned a key to start a car instead of pushing the button.

Its everything and more! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By jj - January 7 - 9:43 amHaving not had a chance to test drive a Prius before I bought one, I didnt quite know what to expect, except great gas mileage. I was very pleasantly surprised all the way around. It has great pickup, maneuverability, it is fun to drive and loves to pass gas stations!

1st Day - GREAT! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By So-Cal Driver - January 5 - 7:50 pmMy wife and I have only had our Prius for exactly 1 day! We did a TON of research and car shopping before we bought this car and I was skeptical at first, but it has definitely lived up to the hype. 46.7 mph on the first drive to work, clean, I love the silence when you stop at a light and during parking and backing up, acceleration is not a problem AT ALL! Coming from 93 Honda Accord this thing is a beauty. Enjoy your vehicle!

recommend to everyone - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Jalexa - December 31 - 9:53 pmMy husband and I have crossed the USA from Georgia to British Columbia with 2 dogs and have found no problems with the car (round trip 2 times). The cost of fuel is minimal compared to the SUV I had before.

Happy Greener - 2005 Toyota Prius
By HappyGreener - December 25 - 9:26 pmIve never loved a car like I love my Prius. Not only is it comfortable for the entire family (two adults, three kids and two dogs), but it also handles beautifully. Im convinced we dont need all the oil weve become so dependent upon, and it feels GREAT to put my money where my mouth is. The Prius is my way of contributing to a cleaner, less politically divisive world and enjoying the ride along the way. Only thing is, I average 50 mpg, not the 60 that they promise. Am I complaining? Not after driving my other cars and averaging 17 mpg! Get one. Youll never look back.
