This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.

Pros:
  • Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
Cons:
  • Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

The touch screen and computer monitor which are standard make this seem like a future car. I added the leather interior package which makes the seats really comfortable. The standard stereo is really good, so I dont think I would even be able to handle the upgrade. I got this as a second car with my 4WD F150. I think it is really neat to watch the graphic while driving and see how the car switches back and forth from gas to battery (electric). If you really pay attention to how you drive it, you can easily get over 50 mpg in city stop and go driving (it charges itself when slowing down). When not paying attention, I get about 46 mpg. So I figure I save about $400/month in gas.

  • Amazingly wonderful - 2008 Toyota Prius

Ive wanted a Prius for years, but havent acted on it because of the unavailability (so it seems). Then I saw one at a local car lot. Since my daughter recently started driving, I jumped on it so I could give her my old Volvo. I didnt get a screamin deal, but it was the color I loved and low mileage for a used 2008 Prius. (Supposedly, the former owner was a big guy and didnt feel comfortable in it.) As for me, I love it! Its a blast to drive, sturdier than I thought, mileage is excellent (55-58 mpg around town), and comfortable. The front window is like a big screen t.v. I drive slower too which is a good thing for me. Ive not had buyers remorse at all. Im very pleased with this car.

  • Dark Blues the Best - 2008 Toyota Prius

I love my Prius. Its made up the additional cost almost right off the bat, from a $3K tax rebate and insurance discounts; it handles and accelerates well (from its high torque electric motor); has plenty of room and cargo space(it is a mid-size sedan); gets fabulous mileage- twice that of other sedans; looks great(in my Dark blue, or pretty black ones Ive seen on the road); and is super convenient (wireless key-fob that ulocks it when you walk up, and also a push-button ignition). Even without the fact that its the best selling and efficient hybrid in the US, Id still buy it over another sedan.

  • 2008 Package #4 - 2008 Toyota Prius

This is my first hybrid, and Im hooked. It is fun to drive, looks better than I expected and has more elctronic gadgets than I ever expected. The regeneration while braking or coasting is too cool. I have already figured ways to get mileage of 55 to 61 MPG that makes me drive with a smile. Amazing how often the engine shuts off. I love looking for new ways to improve mileage, found a route home from work that is 4 miles longer but I get 11 MPG better mileage going that route in less time too. I had always heard that you got better mileage in the city, but have found that I average higher mileage on the highway. Maybe that was an urban myth.

  • Buy one! Two if you can! - 2008 Toyota Prius

I have about 3,000 miles on my 2008 Prius (package # 6) and I cant recommend it enough. This is the best car I have ever had. Ive mastered the glide and coast and am averaging about 60 MPG on my local drives and about 53 MPG on the longer highway drives. Your mileage will vary greatly depending on what kind of driving style you have and routes you take.

  • Amazing auto - 2008 Toyota Prius

Have wanted a Prius since first introduced and am so happy to be able to buy what I consider the Cadillac of hybrids. Handles great, tight and responsive. Performance - its not as quick as some expensive sports cars but for 75 horses they can jump up and run!! The touch screen is sometimes very difficult to see in bright sun.

  • Pass (by) the gas! - 2008 Toyota Prius

After 4000 miles our total mpg. is 51.3 - this calculated using paper and pencil, not the mileage computer in the car. Even on the interstate we average 48+ mpg at 70 to 74 mph. The Prius mileage computer is close to accurate, claiming my mpg. for 4000 miles to be 52.1. My shoulder is sore from patting myself on the back for deciding to buy when I did.

  • Great Vehicle...Even in Wisconsin! - 2008 Toyota Prius
    By -

We have only owned our Prius for a short time and I can only say good things about it so far. It handles great in all weather conditions. We live in Wisconsin and experience snow every few days, which has been no problem. Fuel economy is great although slightly lower, but not significantly, in the winter weather. It is a very fun car to drive. I am 65" 240 pounds and fit comfortably driving and sitting in the passengers seat. Very roomy. I have not experienced any of the phantom shut offs or anything along those lines. The glare on the screen that people talk about has been a non-issue. The lights being dim on the dash is solved by adjusting the dimmer switch until they are super bright.

  • Love my new car - 2008 Toyota Prius

I bought my Prius in April off the show room floor as I was working about 30 miles from home. I love the gas mileage I have been getting. Depending on how fast I drive, weather and weight, I have been averaging about 48-55 mpg. It is also fun to stop at the gas station and buy a pop instead of gas. I am not sorry I bought this. 2 of my co workers have also bought a hybrid as they were impressed with all the features, leg room, quiet, etc. Love it.
