  • Great Value, though quite annoying - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

This is a great car, it gives you fantastic mileage and it seems very reliable. Toyotas flagship hybrid car does what you expect it to do. Now, there are a few EXTREMELLY annoying features on this car that will make you think about it twice before buying it. Firstly, the beeping: You are going to have loud beeping for almost anything you do, being the most irritating the one when you hit reverse. Its piercing, loud and cannot be heard outside of the vehicle, which kind of seems kind of idiotic. Why would you want an annoying loud beep sound INSIDE of your vehicle when you are in reverse mode? To warn you that you are in reverse mode? but you are the one hitting reverse, so you know, and as you are going back, you still know you are going back, so why a beep? I still have no answer for that, but it makes parking very unpleasant and it CAN NOT BE SWITCHED OFF. I repeat: IT CANNOT BE SWITCHED ON, E.V.E.R.. Also, every time you open the drivers door, you also get a LOUD beep, and it CANNOT BE SWITCHED OFF. Guess what? You already know you are opening the front door, because you are the one doing it! So, why that loud beep? yep. Surprisingly, you can exit the car, close the doors with your remote still leaving the car on, and it will remind completely silent, even though that WILL FOR SURE HAPPEN to you at some point if you never owned a keyless car. I can guarantee you that. There is a nice screen that allows you to read text msgs from your phone and even play video and watch pictures. However, it will not do that unless you car is stopped (and I believe the engine is off). So even if the co-pilot decided to watch pictures in the larger screen from their phone or just use the screen during a long trip, they cant do it. This feature cannot be overridden either. The car basically treats you like you are 4yo and its loud. I have been driving for 20 years, If I buy a car, I want a car, not a baby sitter with a loud piercing horn. Period. Another thing is the location of the mail panel. If you are tall or average height, your right knee will hit it. I get it, this is not a big car, still there are other ways to configure the inside so things dont get in the way. While that may not be a big deal as you drive test it on the dealer, it will became painful in a daily basis. I can also guarantee that. In conclusion, this is a great car, with a terrible computer built in computer. If we could just switch it off all together and just drive the damn thing, it would be a very valuable vehicle. But thats not the case.

  • Good car, but make sure its right for you - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

I ended up with a Prius due to a strong, strong recommendation from a family member who swears by them. I took a data-driven approach to justifying the purchase, showing that the Prius is the car the minimizes lifetime cost for a set of safety, reliability, and size characteristics. Here the Prius has lived up to my expectations. So yes, the Prius does often make sense for your brain. However, make sure that its really the car that you actually want too. A bunch of things beyond the numbers really bug me about it. The outside is really ungainly, and the insides high contrast color scheme isnt my style. The center speedometer I thought would be fine, but when I hold my hand around 2 oclock on the steering wheel, my hand blocks it. Without a doubt the Prius is an incredibly well engineered car, but thats not all there is to a car purchase. If I were doing it again, Id choose one of the many other cars that is also well engineered but looks and feels a bit more conventional.

  • Moonstone Dashboard is Glaringly Bright - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

I have been waiting for the 2016 Prius in hopes of buying one. I test drove one, and the dashboard was so brightly colored that it hurt my eyes. I dont like black interiors so I dont know what to buy now since these are the only 2 options. I hope that the dashboard color can be toned down to the color of the older models. My 2011 Prius with the gray interior is perfect. It would also be good to have fog lights on Prius 2 models. They are only available on the Touring 3 and 4 models.

  • What were they thinking??? - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

I have been driving a 2006 Toyota Prius that has 150,000 miles on it, and have been very happy with the car. But when the hybrid battery went on it, I decided to consider buying a new Prius. I test drove the Prius 4 Touring, and compared to my 2006 Prius, was very disappointed. All the dashboard displays had been moved from the drivers side to the middle between the drivers seat and passengers seat. So, with the new Prius, when drivers looks straight ahead at the dashboard, they see...nothing! It seems less safe to have to look to the side to view the speedometer or fuel gauge while driving. The 2016 Prius has only one glove compartment, while my 2006 Prius has two...so now there is less storage space inside the car. And the 2016 Prius 4 has no spare tire, only a "tire repair kit," which I was told is like Fix-a-Flat. I have trouble understanding what benefit this tire repair kit would offer me if I hit a pothole on a highway and blew out my tire. I asked the salesman if the trunk includes a well for me to store a spare tire if I decided to buy one on my own. He replied that there is no well, but I could always put the spare tire in the back seat and wrap in plastic. How crazy is that?! I decided to replace the hybrid battery on my 2006 Prius and hope that within the next 2 years, Toyota comes to their senses and corrects these "improvements" they made to the style of the car.

  • A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

Own a 2007 Prius and was hoping for a huge improvement. It was there in the noticeable performance improvement and quieter cabin. However A huge technology screen is distracting, and visibility has diminished considerably in this version with a large sensor in front of the rear view mirror and tall head rests front and back. And seats sit lower adding to reduced visibility. So we decided to save almost 28,000 and keep our 2007 since the deal skimped on trade in price. Moreover the flashy body design did not impress us.

  • Deal breaking exterior design - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

Headline says it all, I would probably be driving a 2016 Prius had it not been for the impossibly bad exterior design. I had a good test drivr, but I simply could not purchase a vehicle that made me cringe every time I looked at it. Good thing my 2007 Prius is in good shape. Perhaps I will hold onto it for another couple years and see if Toyota comes up with something a little less psychotic looking.
