Overview & Reviews
The Matrix receives a revised front bumper, taillights and grille to freshen up the exterior, along with a new audio head unit design, optional side curtain airbags and other minor interior changes. Stability control is also newly optional.
- Versatile cargo area, roomy rear seats, good gas mileage, generous standard equipment list, availability of all-wheel drive and stability control.
- Modest torque output, less fun to drive than its styling suggests.

Such a good Choice - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By CupidT - November 2 - 2:33 amIt is my first car purchase and I LOVE IT. I love the shape of it, I love my red lights on the inside, I love being able to see the song playing on the radio. Im tall about 511 and my knees dont hit the steering wheel.

Love this car - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By Ray Edwards - October 1 - 1:30 amI bought this car for my wife and bought a second for my son. Both cars have the craftsmanship that you expect from Toyota. The interior is much roomier than you would expect from a car that is built on Corolla specs. With the seats folded down, my son can easily fit his road bike inside without removing the front tire. The vehicle gets very good gas mileage (recently on a highway trip we got 32 mpg). Many people stop us and ask about the car, and we always give rave reviews.

2005 Toyota Matrix - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By Daniel Royle - September 27 - 9:23 amPurchased this vehicle for my wife who did not need her Dodge Minivan anymore. The Matrix is well made and is fun to drive. She loves it. We bought the base model which did not come with mudflaps or cruise control so those items were added. Only complaint is that the base model does not have power mirrors.

Enter The Matrix - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By ANGWX - September 20 - 6:10 pmA MATRIX is a compromise, especially for me. Im an SUV guy in a $2/gal world. With that in mind, I commend Toyota for building sich a fine, cool, LARGE interior non-wagon wagon that allows a guys guy to drive it.

2005 XR 5-speed - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By John - June 27 - 5:33 pmI have been completely satisfied with my Matrix after 1 year of ownership. It has been completely reliable and gas mileage as good as advertised at 33-36 MPG. It wont win any races for speed, but I knew that when I bought it.

Its a Keeper - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By Sparky - June 4 - 1:36 pmI bought this car, needing a daily commuter that got good gas mileage, but with enough room for when Im hauling the 4 kids. I have occasionally kicked myself for not getting the Scion tC instead, bigger engine, more power, more stylish and fun, auto transmission etc., but opted for the Matrix because of the headroom, especially in the back seat, my 13 year old son is nearly 6 ft tall. But all in all, the more miles I put on this car, the better I like it. It has been rock solid since day one, and the mileage keeps getting better! (currently averaging 35.9 over the last 5k miles. Cargo room is unbelievable, I can easily fit two large Costco carts of groceries inside!

Everything I Expected - 2005 Toyota Matrix
By JohnC19 - June 1 - 8:23 pmIve owned my 2005 Matrix XR 5-speed for 4 months and so far have nothing but good things to say about the car. My Matrix is fun to drive, has very comfortable and supportive seats, lots of passenger room, and gets very good gas mileage. The lowest I have gotten is 31 MPG, and that was on the first tank of gas from the dealership. Since then it has averaged 34 - 36 MPG, depending on how much highway driving is included. I know people who have bought Hybrid vehicles (Civic and Prius) who dont get that much better mileage (40 - 45 MPG) to justify the higher price. My Matrix was under $17K OTD. The car has no squeaks or rattles and feels like it will hold up well for the next 10 years.
