  • Never Again - 2016 Toyota Highlander
    By -

We decided to purchase an SUV and looked at just about everything. Since we own a Lexus (ES330)) and never had a problem so we decided we would go with a Toyota. If we had an opportunity to drive the Highlander for a day or two prior to making a decision we would have never bought it. First the "Chrometec" wheels are nothing but glorified hub caps. When you purchase the top model you expect to get real wheels. We cant use/tilt the moon roof because of road noise. We suspect it has to do with the aerodynamics of the tilt and cross bar of the luggage rack but someone eat Toyota should have tested that out. Here nor there its too loud to use. The positioning of the navigation screen is horrible. Most of the time there is such a glare on the screen its unusable - this was a really poorly thought out design. In addition the system shuts off and reboots for no reason - it appears we are not the only ones experiencing this. If you are using the Navigation and it shuts down your are out of luck until it reboots. We also have the vented seats but on the cooling mode you can hear the fan noise over your left shoulder if you are the driver - ridiculous. Lastly the floor in nothing more then felt. Looking at trading it in and only had it for a few months..worst vehicle I have ever owned. Cheaply made..

  • Best SUV Ive Ever Owned - 2016 Toyota Highlander
    By -

I needed a 8 passenger SUV for my family with growing kid, their friends, sports, activities, etc... I narrowed it down to the redesigned Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander XLE AWD. I reviewed many customer, and on-line expert reviews, and for me there was no contest... the winner was the Toyota Highlander XLE. From looks and comfort to performance and safety/technology. All of my past five SUVs all drove like trucks, but not the Highlander, this one drove like a Lexus! It is definitely a head turner that Im proud to drive. I got the Blizzard White which is not your standard white, its a more luxurious color for sure. Im 62 tall and I have plenty of room in the drive seat, which is not the case in a lot of SUVs. Just to be picky...I wish it had a few more USB ports, better headlights, and blind side indicators for this model, which is the more popular middle of the road model. I could not comment on the maintenance costs or repair frequency since I only have 1k for miles. Great vehicle overall and so much fun to drive! You will not be disappointed with the Toyota Highlander!!!

I had a wonderful experience when purchasing my Toyota. The employees were very professional and experienced. I traded my 2014 Terrain for the Highlander and the difference is unbelievable. This is the quietest car I have ever had. It handles great and the 6 cylinder is really good. I am still learning all the electronics, but the keyless start is amazing. Interior is beautiful. Everything is well made. There is plenty of leg room for my 66" husband. He loves to drive the car. He thinks I made the right decision purchasing the Highlander Limited. It was a few thousand dollars more than the XL and worth the difference. We have always bought GM vehicles and this is our first Toyota. It is much better than the Terrain.

  • Never thought I would switch from Honda! - 2016 Toyota Highlander
    By -

Took me 4 months to decide on a new SUV (which drove my husband crazy). Thought for sure I would stick with the Honda Pilot bc I loved my 2007 so much but wasnt thrilled with the reviews for the new Pilot and did not care as much for the interior design. Drove a few other makes but fell in love with the Highlander as soon as I drove it. LOVED the interior design and the quiet, smooth ride from the get go. The radio is so much better than my old car as well. Most of the new SUVs I test drove had limited visibility towards the rear of the vehicle. I found that learning how to correctly position my mirrors helped drastically. What I would improve on would be the USB ports. There are none in the 3rd row and the ones up front I feel do not have a lot of power. It takes forever to charge my phone compared to my old car and that is annoying. It takes a while to get use to the navigation system but I played with it to destinations I was familiar with and am getting use to it. After a lot of research and test drives, every vehicle will have positive and negatives and you need to find what is most important to you. So far my family loves the Highlander and I am very happy with our decision.

  • First Toyota but may be my last - 2016 Toyota Highlander

I bought my Toyota Highlander in Jan 2016 New, but it is a 2015 model year. The Car has excellent performance and power , in fact, it almost has too much for a front wheel drive car. However, when getting in traffic I have pushed the accelerator slightly then let up and quickly push again but the engine computer seems to be confused and does not respond as it should. I have talked with Toyota, but they tell me it is all in my mind as they dont see anything wrong. This of course, annoys me but I guess it is typical of many service departments, since they are taught to say these things so they can avoid warranty issues. The steering is nice, firm, and stable. The interior is very roomy and informative with an attractive dash, etc. Seats are comfortable especially around town, but on long drives (300 mi) they tend to get hard and stiff. I have noticed too much wind noise above 60 mph, and this is a big disappointment to me because of Toyotas reputation. The Toyota infotainment is impressive at first, but it become difficult to use the Apps while driving and it seems to have way too many steps to go through just to get what you are looking for. The Navigation is not always accurate or easy to use, so I tend to use google on my I phone and I rarely use the Toyota Nav any longer. The infotainment voice command is difficult and slow, plus it is annoying to use as it makes you wait for a beep sound before you can speak and many times I will talk over the computer and it will not understand what I want. It would be great if they could fix the long delay in the voice command for sure. Overall, the Highlander is a roomy car inside, but the third row seats are really only for small children. I bought this car because of Toyotas reputation for quality but the above negatives have caused me to question all of the quality I was expecting. In fact, at this point I am not sure I will be buying another Toyota Highlander. I have recently driven the New Mazda CX-9 and it seems to really be nice and it offers much more value, interior quality, and it is a very good looking car as well. In fact, I have considered trading my 2 year old Highlander in on the CX-9.

  • Beware of the wind noise - 2016 Toyota Highlander

The car runs well. However, if you are sensitive to noise, you will hate this car. On my car, a 2017 model, there is a wind intrusion, whistling noise on the passenger side window above 45 MPH; None on the drivers side. Dealer acknowledged the problem but said that its a "normal characteristic" of the car until Toyota issues a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on how to fix it. You can google the internet and see how many other people are having the same problem. I would not have bought this car had I known about this. The noise is very annoying and persistent. None of my other Toyotas (2014 Avalon, 2006 Sienna, 2003 Sequoia) have this problem.
