Overview & Reviews
Based on the same platform as the Lexus RX 300, Toyota's new Highlander SUV represents the best blend of a station wagon, a minivan and a sport utility available on the market today. Available only with a V6 and an automatic transmission driving power to the front or all the wheels, Highlander will be sold in one trim level with a Limited package listed on the option sheet.
- Roomy interior, car-like ride and handling, spunky V6 engine, predicted reliability.

Great Car - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By Lila - June 27 - 10:00 amWe have had this car for over three years now and have been extremely happy with it. The back seat is roomier than most larger cars and we have been amazed at how much we can haul inside (furniture, skis, bikes ). The Highlander handles somewhat like a car, drives well in ice and snow, accelerates quickly and is small enough to park just about anywhere. Very dependable - highly recommend it.

Best Car I have ever owned!! - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By Liz in MD - April 25 - 10:00 amI bought this vehicle after owning 2 previous Toyotas that I was very pleased with. This is my favorite Toyota YET!! I am constantly told what a comfortable vehicle the Highlander is by all of my passengers. I recently added a baby to the family and the carseat works so well. Other friends are always complaining about how difficult it is to get their carseat in correctly and how the front seat has no room once the babyseat is installed. I have NONE of these problems with the Highlander. I bought this car from Jerrys Toyota in Maryland and the dealership was so great to do business with.

RIDES LIKE A CAR, LOOKS LIKE AN SUV - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By LBSmith - November 7 - 10:00 amIt took me almost a year to chose this car, and for the most part, I couldnt be much happier. I am a little disappointed in the 4cyl gas mileage, but the convenience and looks of everything else makes up for it. I have had my Highlander for 2 years now and have never ahd a single warranty repair done on it. My only regret is that I did not splurge for the Limited package.

Best SUV out there - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By Cuzman - October 24 - 10:00 amHave the V6 4WD. An amazing machine!! Plenty of room for my 6 5" frame. The ride is so smooth, if you were blind- folded youd think you were in a luxury car. And, the safety is the best around (unless you have $50,000-$80,000 for the BMW X5). The gas mileage comes in just under my V6 Accord. Safety, great fuel economy, lots of space, great visibility all around. What more could you ask for? (And, a good price if you do your reseach and shop around a bit!!!!)

A Great SUV - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By JG - October 18 - 4:16 amI purchased the Highlander the first year it was made and from my experience this is the best SUV ever built. The Highlander is designed to be a very comfortable ride as well as a great hauling vehicle. Very reliable car. I have had no problems. Excellent fit and finish. I was rear-ended by someone 2 months after purchase and hardly felt the impact - no injuries. If you are looking for a safe and fun SUV to drive for your family, the Highlander is it. I love this car.

Still lovin it after all these years - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By Nancy - October 11 - 7:13 amI used to trade cars every two years, but not with this one. I bought the car new in 2001, the first year they were out, and I STILL love driving it. Rear seating is great when you need it, as is the cargo space. Like the others, the cup holders, well... But unlike some other reviews, Im still on my original tires (my model had Goodyear Integrity tires) with about 1/2 of the treadwear still remaining! I keep waiting to see the Hybrid version come out later this year.

Best Ive Owned So Far - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By 56rascal - August 13 - 10:00 amWe shopped around for an SUV or Van to tow our new tent trailer, and we looked at the Tribute, Pathfinder, XTerra, Liberty, Sienna, and possibly the Odyssey (which was selling above MSRP at the time). One night we came close to getting an offer on a Liberty, but to our great fortune the dealership wasnt seriously negociating. So we, on a lark, tried the Highlander, and I just about fell out the seat when I drove it. It was just out of our top price range, but there was no doubt about getting one. Within 24 hours we made a reasonable deal considering it was new to the market. Then within a week we took it on a 9,000 mile road trip around the US.

Almost 10 in TN - 2001 Toyota Highlander
By tjpirtle - May 18 - 10:43 amI purchased the 2.4L 4 cyl. and Im very pleased with its performance. The gas mileage is great city/hwy 24mpg. Handling is solid & steady. Light roll when cornering. Road noise at 80 mph was good. The interior is very good. Im 62" and the room in front and rear is very good. Theres very little to complain with this vehicle.
