We bought a 2016 Highlander Limited. 1. Gas mileage is overstated 10-15%. 2.Front Passenger seat is too low, if not electric (ours) cannot raise, so uncomfortable armrest and window height for a lady. Our drivers seat is adjustable up & down, so great. 3. Electronics are not well designed. 4. GPS poor.

Have read many reviews about this SUV. Now Im happy of being its owner. I was going to wait for 2017 n ew model, but changed my mind and bought 2016 one instead, because Ive heard Toyota is going to put 8-speed on 2017 model. Dond have confidence on >6 speed transmission. MSRP of my Platinum was $46333, paid $43112 (Edmunds special) + tax/license, not a bad deal. Among all the Japanese cars, I prefer Toyota & Lexus. I am quite happy with this HL. It serves the purpose I want and well. Out from all the goodies, three things that did not get on my "like-list". (1) Gas mileage is average 18 mpg, lower than what Mr. Toyota said. (2) The two side mirrors are toooo bulky ! They block a lot of front & side views. Drivers dont need to see the whole world from these mirrors, Mr. Toyota! (3)When I step on gas paddle, even when slightly, the engine tends to make loud noise(shouting). Funny thing is, when driving on a fast-speed freeway, engine noise is the only one I could hear. Toyota forgot to keep its family quiet while having got its neighbors silent well.

Have owned several Toyota vehicles. Husband recently traded up from 2014 to 2016 Tacoma due to BSM. I traded my 2013 XLE Avalon for a 2016 Highlander Limited. My only gripe is the 2016 Tacoma and 2013 XLE Avalon both have digital speedometers yet the 2016 Limited does NOT.. real bummer as I prefer to "see" my speed digitally displayed. Didnt realize it until after the purchase. Had the same DISP button as the other vehicles so assumed the Highlander Limit had it. Oh well lessons learned

Ive had a 2016 FWD XLE for two weeks, and took it out for its first long road trip this past weekend, mainly interstate driving. Im somewhat disappointed in the amount of wind noise Im hearing while driving at higher speeds (over 55 mph). Im comparing it to my 2010 Highlander, which I was hesitant to trade in for the 2016 because it was the best vehicle we had ever owned--the only time it was in the repair shop was for oil changes and tire rotations. We decided it was time to upgrade since our 2010 didnt have a navigation system, power liftgate or any of the "luxury" options that are now offered. I did not hear any wind noise in my 2010, so Im not sure if the re-styled body and side mirrors have anything to do with it, because the redesign does give the vehicle a more aerodynamic, streamlined look which I would have thought would help with issues like wind noise. However, road noise is minimum, and the steering and handling is significantly better than the previous model.

  • Entune & JBL System Bad, Car is Otherwise Great - 2016 Toyota Highlander

We owned a 2013 Highlander with the JBL sound system and it was amazing. This 2016 system is horrible. No bass whatsoever. The Entune system is now crashing intermittently. Not what I expect from Toyota. Otherwise, the Highlander is awesome.

  • Comfortable powerful good looking SUV - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Have only owned for 1 month so cant speak to reliability yet. Went on a road trip with our two kids and was thoroughly impressed with the ride quality and creature comforts of our new highlander. Fuel economy isnt great (we averaged 20 mpg with a cargo box) -- hoping that improves as the engine breaks in. Pros: Comfortable seats, plenty of storage/passenger space, good acceleration and handling. Cons: Limited edition lacks some safety features that other vehicles in this class include as standard, plastic covering on "premium" wheels, JBL stereo sounds terrible (under powered), navigation screen glare (due to poor positioning). Update: 6 months and 6K miles into ownership, Highlander is holding up well. Still underwhelmed with gas mileage and find the center arm rest too high resulting in occasional shoulder pain. Also wish the automatic rear hatch opened/closed a bit quicker. Small things -- overall, happy with the purchase. In summary, the high lander provides the right amount of space, power, and has a firm grip on the road. However, some of the "details" are lacking -- Toyota seems to have cut a few corners to save on build costs.

  • Good value for the price - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Car is very roomy and comfortable and has a smooth ride. Features are great with the exception of the lack of keyless start as a standard feature.

The 2 row of seats are bucket seats did not care for that design.

  • Miss my Jeep Grand Cherokee. - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Although there were things on the Jeep I really like, the Highlander is fine. The Highlander driver-seat-belt arrangement is difficult to reach when starting a drive. I miss the handles of the Jeep: they were where the side-air-bags are located in the Highlander so have to use the steering wheel as a "grab" on entering. I prefer the 4wd selector in the Jeep as opposed to the method in the Highlander which essentially is front-wheel-drive with automatic traction transfer to the rear wheels as sensors determine. Gas mileage of the Highlander V-6 seems to be about the same as the "in-line-six" of the Jeep; around 27-28 hwy. I also miss the gauges of Jeep (oil, etc.) and "warning lights" may be just a tad too late. Had leather seats in the Jeep with seat-warmer; no need for seat warmer with the Highlanders fabric seats. Dragging myself, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century so, I will eventually get used to the Highlander. In all, it has more bells and whistles than the Jeep and I driving with the manual on my lap at times.
