This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, a larger 3.3-liter V6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine, resulting in 10 extra horsepower for a total of 230. Additionally, a fold-flat third-row seat (for two passengers) is now optional on base models and standard on the Limited. To keep the extra passengers content in back, a rear DVD entertainment system is available on Limited models. On the safety front, all Highlanders now come with an electronic stability control system and a tire-pressure warning system, while side curtain airbags for the first and second rows are optional across the board. Rounding out the changes are freshened exterior styling, new seat fabric, new instrument and door panel trim and a 5-hp boost for the base four-cylinder engine (now rated at 160).

Pros:
  • Seats up to seven, carlike ride and handling, smooth and powerful V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, lots of safety features.
Cons:
  • Gets expensive quickly, limited towing and off-road ability, bland personality.

  • Oh What a Feeling - 2004 Toyota Highlander

Great Vehicle. I own 2 Highlanders one in Kentucky and One in NYC. Too bad our Roads in NYC stink to high heaven. Its like I bought a d-flawless diamond and then hit it with a hammer. I would have preferred the TOYO tires. I got stuck with the Bridestone that has POOR ratings. Insist that the dealer sell you a Highlander with the TOYOs. Toyota made a bad call with the Bridestone, Duerler H/Ts.

No doubt Toyota highlander is wonderful on road and comfortable to drive, the only problem i have is the fuel consumption when the a/c is on.

  • Nice SUV - 2004 Toyota Highlander

Great SUV, new powerful 3.3L engine, smooth riding, lots of standard features, lots of space and drives like a sports car.

  • Great First SUV - 2004 Toyota Highlander

If your looking for your first SUV, this is your car. The V6 AWD has a very smooth ride. When you first get in the car and look around you will find that their are no blind spots! Which is a plus for a SUV. The standard features are ample, and you really feel like you are getting the most for what you paid for. The third row seat is a nice feature. The only problem I see with that is the very limited leg room and the inability to easily get in and out. All in all, this is a great vehical. Have no regrets and Im sure you wont either.

  • Limited Version - 2004 Toyota Highlander

A very comfortable riding vehicle. To me, the limited package is worth the extra coin. Smooth power on demand. The extra gear in the tranny is a drivers delight. My MPG is close to 20. Not great but adequate. No gripes here!

  • Better than Expected - 2004 Toyota Highlander

Have had this car for about a month now and I love it. Was driving a Volvo and got sick of the repair bills, so Im looking forward to Toyotas famous reliability. The ride is exceptional and it handles far better than you would think a 5300 pound vehicle would.

  • Wanted it all! - 2004 Toyota Highlander

I promise you I feel like I got it. I had an appointment at a BMW dealership but thought that I would give myself the peace of mind of looking at EVERYTHING! I said to myself that I would only get a SUV with a third row seat or a BMW. I was feeling that the only thing out there with a fold flat was the explorer and I really did not want a Ford. I am so glad that I did not settle. I am also glad that I gave the Highlander a chance. The minute I sat in the Highlander I knew that I was going to drive away in it. I was comfortable and VERY nicely appointed. The best deal out there. Appointed better the the BMW and cheaper. What more can I ask for!!
