Overview & Reviews
For 2004, a larger 3.3-liter V6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine, resulting in 10 extra horsepower for a total of 230. Additionally, a fold-flat third-row seat (for two passengers) is now optional on base models and standard on the Limited. To keep the extra passengers content in back, a rear DVD entertainment system is available on Limited models. On the safety front, all Highlanders now come with an electronic stability control system and a tire-pressure warning system, while side curtain airbags for the first and second rows are optional across the board. Rounding out the changes are freshened exterior styling, new seat fabric, new instrument and door panel trim and a 5-hp boost for the base four-cylinder engine (now rated at 160).
- Seats up to seven, carlike ride and handling, smooth and powerful V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, lots of safety features.
- Gets expensive quickly, limited towing and off-road ability, bland personality.

Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By urS - September 30 - 10:00 amI absolutely love this car. Its not only comfortable, but it is fun to drive! I started off looking for a van but didnt feel that the vans were sporty enough or comfortable. Everyone who rides in it remarks how comfortable it is. Thats the young and old alike. A few times my husband took it for his hunting trip and remarked how comfortable highway driving was. I was afraid I wouldnt get it back. This is by far the best car we have ever had.

I love my Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By miki12 - July 11 - 2:00 amThe Highlander has great pick up for a 4 cyl. especially when entering the highway or in a passing situation. It has handled very vell in snow/ice conditions. The front wheel drive seemed to have a smoother ride than the AWD during my test drive. More car like thank truck like. The interior is roomy. My only regret is that I did not get the optional 3rd row seat. The dashboard is easy to read and controls are "user friendly"

Luv It - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Rosie Gamgee - June 30 - 10:00 amThis was my first new car in 10 years. Didnt know I could love a car this much! Looked around for a long time to find the right car. This was it. Absolutely no problems and drives like a dream. Seems like the vehicle was designed just for me. Everything is exactly where it should be (at my fingertips). Ride is so smooth. Wonderful in the snow and slush of Upstate NY. Plan on keeping this vehicle a very long time! Thanks Toyota for designing and building a car for all of the Moms who have outgrown the mini van.

Love this SUV!!! - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By malibulady - May 29 - 2:00 amI am so impressed with the way the Highlander handles and rides like a car. The AWD is definitely the way to go. I feel very secure in the Highlander.

2004 highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By piner - April 17 - 2:00 amgreat ride, and looks great inside with the leather package. We have the extra 3rd row and it has come in handy. You can turn it on dime, and the ride is extremely smooth. Love all the little info that it gives, such as mpg, temperature, miles gone, and such. love the sunroof and window.

Love My Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Marni - April 17 - 2:00 amWe bought a 2002 and upgraded to a 2004 4WD this year. Simply love this car and didnt give a thought to any other SUV on the market. It rides and handles beautifully. Its very easy to get in and out of and is quite comfortable for my bad back [had several surgeries]. We cant believe how much cargo it can carry. And, its a very classy vehicle to go out in. Couldnt recommend it enough.

Great Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Joseph George - March 13 - 3:23 amThe Highlander has never been returned for warranty work or factory defects, except for 2 minor recalls. My only concern is the ride is becoming a bit harsh at 34K miles

First Toyota SUV - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By SalemHokie - February 7 - 12:00 pmMy wife and I purchased our Highlander about a month ago. So far, we have no complaints at all. We both really enjoy driving the Highlander. My wife likes the fact that it doesnt feel like she is driving some big vehicle, like a lot of the other midsize SUVs we test drove. One thing I would definetly suggest, is to get some quotes from dealerships online. I got a quote from the dealership for the Highlander we purchased, and the salesman at the dealership was asking about $2500.00 more than what I was quoted online. We had fun with him for a while, till we brought out the quote we had received online. Doing your research and getting some quotes definetly helps.
