  • Hail to the Highlander - 2005 Toyota Highlander

Rides great, looks great, gets great mileage for a 6 cyl SUV. We tried several SUVs before deciding to buy the Highlander and were happy with what we have. Weve had a lot of Toyotas (Camrys, Corollas) and we feel they are one of the top products on the road. We look forward to good trade-in value, also.

I love the way the Vehicle rides. Since it has the same body style and car frame as a Lexus RX 330. I felt the price sold it.

135K miles. Bought 8/04. Most options, 3rd row. V6, 3.3, AWD. Ive had big 3, BMW (3), Volvo (2), Jag V12 sedan, Audi and this is the best of them all in terms of overall satisfaction. I can find small design grips like the vague sunroof switch, tight 3 row seat, but very little problems and outstanding reliability. Orig. Bridgestones 50K. Rear brakes 60K. Front brakes 130K ! All lamps except highs original. High beams 120K. Tow a 2,000 lb travel trailer cross 3,000 miles averaging 20.5mpg. Mileage town 18, highway 23. No leaks, amazing tranny, great power, tows trailer beautifully (after easy lift). One problem. At 50K rear bushing worn. Probably do to trailer towing.

We purchased the Highlander in February. Its only used as a family car. Since owning it we have taken it from Maine to Florida and have had no problems at all. The back seat became a little cramped for our 2 children ages 11 and 14 however we did make use of a luggage carrier and that did help a lot. We have never used the third row seat. I find it a pleasure to drive with plenty of power. It did take little while to learn the switches. The limited off-road capability is to be taken seriously. I have gotten it stuck twice in sand and have determined that I would have been better served in a 4-runner only because of my off-road demands. Overall I would consider it a wonderful vehicle.

My wife and I were comparing Honda Pilot and Highlander. Decided on Toyota because of finance deal and 6 disc changer that dealer put in and DVD system. Toyota is a little smaller than Pilot and does not ride as high, but makes it easier for my wife to get in the car. Drives very smoothly with good power curve when accelerating. Also has better gas mileage than Pilot. Interior is well laid out with features such as backset bottle holders and backseat is comfortable and reclines.

This vehicle has been the best purchase in my 25 years of buying vehicles. Only 2 little things have gone wrong, the power window mechanism and the door gasket, and the dealer has bent over backwards to fix them. The vehicle gets good gas mileage for its size, its comfortable on a long trip and has a roomy interior. Toyota does it right!

  • My Experience with The Toyata Highlander - 2005 Toyota Highlander

I had planned to get another manufacturers minivan when the rear fold down seats came out in April. I decided to take a look at the Highlander as it was highly rated. I test-drove one for several miles, and bought it on the spot. I felt that I had been driving it all my life (59 yrs. experience) and was completely comfortable with it. On numerous trips to the mountains of NC this past summer I was impressed with the flawless handling on a highway with several miles of tight switchbacks. I havent had the first problem in nearly 12,000 miles. Items that I went in for help on, turned out to be procedural! This is the most satisfactory vehicle I have ever owned.

After working for another Japanese auto manufacturer for 18 years I decided on a Toyota. The Highlander 4cyl was everything I was looking for as a single mom who still wanted to look good riding my teenage daughter around with her friends and easy on my pocketbook. The fuel economy is fantastic and the power of the 4cyl has not disappointed me yet. Under the hood is not even foreign to me as everything is clearly color coded so even I can add the necessary fluids. I love the automatic shift placement up higher which gives me more room for easy placement of personal items. Love my Toyota!

Handles well, tight on corners, power from the standstill, it plows through snow w/o skidding or bogging down.
