This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, a larger 3.3-liter V6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine, resulting in 10 extra horsepower for a total of 230. Additionally, a fold-flat third-row seat (for two passengers) is now optional on base models and standard on the Limited. To keep the extra passengers content in back, a rear DVD entertainment system is available on Limited models. On the safety front, all Highlanders now come with an electronic stability control system and a tire-pressure warning system, while side curtain airbags for the first and second rows are optional across the board. Rounding out the changes are freshened exterior styling, new seat fabric, new instrument and door panel trim and a 5-hp boost for the base four-cylinder engine (now rated at 160).

Pros:
  • Seats up to seven, carlike ride and handling, smooth and powerful V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, lots of safety features.
Cons:
  • Gets expensive quickly, limited towing and off-road ability, bland personality.

  • Pumped about the New Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander

We just purchased one of these cars. We could not be happier with our decision. We were looking for a 2002 or 2003 used Highlander, but they were scarce. That alone should say something about the quality. We are looking forward to many years with our new ride.

The vehicle is built great and right the first time. There are NO problems with anything in or out of this vehicle. Body panels fit tight and equal in all area of the car. Fit and finish of the interior are better than most other cars on the road today

This being my second Highlander, first was the 2001 model. It is such a joy to hop in my car and go. I did not want the third row seat but it has not been an inconvenience, I keep it down and have just as much space as my last Highlander. Driving on the road which I do a lot of is just my cup of tea!

  • Our best car ever... - 2004 Toyota Highlander

This is the best car we have owned. Toyota is a long time favorite as we have had 4 Camrys and still have a Tacoma pick up truck as well as the Highlander. When people ride with us they cant get over how quiet and comfortable our Highlander is.

This car is fun to drive. I would recommend the Highlander Limited to anyone looking for a SUV, drives like a car and a Lexus only less money. All the options you want. Get the premium sound system, the best. Now I know why its rated so high!!

Very nice vehicle. Lexus quality; Toyota price. Smooth, quiet ride. 3rd row seating has already come in handy. 4 cylinder is a little sluggish, but not a problem. Gas mileage should be good for this medium sized SUV. We went from a 2000 Honda CRV, what a difference! The Toyota just feels more solid and gets better gas mileage, just no comparison between the two.

I have drivin a Suburban for 10 years, the Highlander is like a sports car to me. It handles great and has a lot of pep. No problems at all going over the mountain pass. I have had four kids in the car, with one that is 56" in the third seat and they were comfortable. A 63" man in the back seat with plenty of leg room. Love this car!
