  • Great choice for midsize SUV - 2002 Toyota Highlander

This SUV drives like a car but has cargo like an SUV. Smooth on the road and I have the 4 cyl 2wd model that gets great gas mileage for an SUV. Handles great.

Traded a Mercedes ML320. Mercedes is probably more capable off road, but Highlander is quieter, more comforable, and just easier to live with every day.

This Highlander has been all we had hoped it would be. We have an SR5 but it is more equiped than the typical Limited. It provides a refined ride with ample interior space, it feels solid and handles responsively. We dont mind making long trips in it, and performs well under harsh wintery conditions. Gas mileage has been very good for an SUV. We are very satisfied.

drove both 4 & 6 cy., and chose the 4 for gas mileage. Its fine for majority of driving, but if you ever have to stop on an incline, and then start uphill again it may take you to Christmas to get to the top! I test drove Explorer, Pathfinder, CR-V, Santa Fe, Escape, and Jeep Liberty. Highlanders quality far better than any of those. I have bought nine new cars in my life, and this was the most unpleasant transaction Ive had. The dealership was the most impersonal, uncaring, arrogant salesmen Ive ever dealt with, especially AFTER the sale. Wouldnt return phone calls.

I love Toyota cars! This is my third Toyota. The Highlander is a very attractive and smooth riding SUV.

  • Brand New Family Buys the Highlander - 2002 Toyota Highlander

Test drove both the 4-cylinder and the V6. Would have liked the V6, but living in Houston (read: FLAT) made the 4-cyl a nice choice, especially with the gas mileage and the $1500 price difference. Also, the 4-cyl is bigger and has more power than you might expect. So far the Highlander has been perfect for our new family of three. VERY roomy, VERY quiet, and VERY comfortable. Havent had the wind problems that others have mentioned, but its not overly windy down on the Gulf Coast. Even with the carseat in the back row, there is ample space for 2 more adults, plus our 90# Labrador in the cargo area (my advice: buy the cargo mat for the back!).

  • Toyota is a joke - 2002 Toyota Highlander

bought new in 12/03, took on trip over 1000 miles to ky and back to va. I was never more happy to get out of the worst seats, I have ever been in, in a car/suv. I always thought Toyota was a great car but now know better, seats are too small and hard as a rock, no support to the side and the lumbar is worthless. The metal in this car is very thin and sounds like a tin can when you hit a bump in the road. I will be happy when we can unload this car on someone that is in love with so called Toyota quality and resale value.

  • 32K carefree driving miles - 2002 Toyota Highlander
    By -

With winter driving on our new Geolander HT-S tires this SUV/car with all the safety features offered has been worth the $34K price. OEM Bridgestones were very poor in snow. High wind noise with rear windows open; but why open them? Driver side power seat great but manual front pax seat very uncomfortable for this 6 footer. Unlit interior controls a challenge at night, but then this HL just drives itself down the interstate. Very satisfied.

This truely is a dream like machine. Perfect quality, not a single blemish, not a problem in the 1st 6,700 miles we have driven, great snow traction, a head turner as you drive, a joy. Interior, console and trim are what you expect in a pricier Lexus. I read that Toyota uses the same suppliers as the Lexus. Our choice between the roomier Acura MDX ($3K more) and Highlander. Our Honda Accord experience was so bad that we decided go for the Quality leader. MDX reviews say Transmission Clunks and windows/sunroofs leak. I am glad we stuck with Toyota.
