Overview & Reviews
For 2004, a larger 3.3-liter V6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine, resulting in 10 extra horsepower for a total of 230. Additionally, a fold-flat third-row seat (for two passengers) is now optional on base models and standard on the Limited. To keep the extra passengers content in back, a rear DVD entertainment system is available on Limited models. On the safety front, all Highlanders now come with an electronic stability control system and a tire-pressure warning system, while side curtain airbags for the first and second rows are optional across the board. Rounding out the changes are freshened exterior styling, new seat fabric, new instrument and door panel trim and a 5-hp boost for the base four-cylinder engine (now rated at 160).
- Seats up to seven, carlike ride and handling, smooth and powerful V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, lots of safety features.
- Gets expensive quickly, limited towing and off-road ability, bland personality.

2004 Highlander Review - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By JLipka - June 15 - 10:00 amI purchased this vehicle because I have a rather large family. I wanted something bigger than what I was already driving. This was exactly what I was looking for. The optional 3rd row seating works great for us. I unfold it when not in use. The CD/radio that came with the Highlander sounds great. I did test drive some other makes and models of SUVs. The Toyota Highlander was the one that I enjoyed driving the most. I like that seats in the 2nd and 3rd row are able to move forward and backwards. With the 3rd row seats folded down there is ample amount of cargo space. The gas mileage is excellent for this SUV. I opted for the 4 cyl. engine.

2004 Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Billy - June 4 - 2:03 amIve owned Porsches, Alfas, and about 35 American vehicles. The Highlander with stability control is the best overall vehicle I have owned and driven. A quality vehicle from the paint job to the excellent performing V-6 and automatic transmission.

A Great Driving Experience - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By go blue - May 4 - 10:00 amI have only had my Highlander for a few months, however, from the time I took it for a test drive I fell in love with its handling ability and quiet ride. It has been through a New England winter and the automatic 4 wheel drive was a blessing. Also, the interior is user friendly and very comfortable to drive. If you are looking at SUVs this is definitly a must buy.

FTD - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By leonf3rd - March 16 - 10:00 amFunToDrive. I was very surprise on it smooth handling. Family loves it. After adding a few accessories on the outside it turned out to be a very good-looking vehicle. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a small-medium SUV. Good gas mileage. I wish the fog lights were standard. Can get expensive adding few features.

Highlander/2003 - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Patricia A. Vitela - February 18 - 2:00 amWe graduated from a Toyota Limited 4Runner to the Highlander last month. The ride is smooth, the seating is comfortable, the look of the auto is handsome and classy. We love it! Our 98 4Runner drove and felt like a truck and it was good for these country dirt roads. But now we are in for comfort.

Review of 04 Highander V6 LTD - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Bill Burleson - January 18 - 4:06 amExcellent vehicle for fairly short times, gets uncomfortable on long (4 hrs or more) trips. I am 72 years old and this may not be a problem for a younger driver. Easy to park and maneuver, good visibility for driver.

Built to Last - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By SJ Dave - January 9 - 1:36 pmI had bought the Highlander brand new for my wife back in 2004. It is one of the best of all the vehicles we had ever owned. Back then we paid for an extra extended 7 yr. warranty which paid for it self in two visits. Two yrs. ago the stereo system stopped working since it was covered, they repl. the whole unit for free. Then in this past Dec. we took it in for service, they noticed it leaking around the water pump, it was covered so it was repl. for free. Other than that we only have done regular service, brakes & the tires were repl. Ive driven it to Virginia from NJ and its still a pleasure to drive. We still get great gas mileage from this SUV.

Fun to drive carlike ride suv - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Simp - December 31 - 2:00 amMy 2004 Toyota Highlander 4cyl fwd is excellent, an suv with a car like ride, smooth transmission and an exceptional pick up and it can stop on a dime.Very economical and reliable transportation. However, it is not as comfortable and luxurious as a Grand Cherokee, Id recomend the V6 engine with 4 wd and you wont be disappointed.
