This Year's Model Updates:

Two new audio systems are available and both include three-in-one ETR/cassette/CD features. Also available are daytime running lights with auto-off. Vintage Red Pearl, Sable Pearl and Woodland Pearl replace Sunfire Red Pearl, Ruby Red and Classic Green Pearl.

Pros:
  • When it comes to people moving, the Camry gets the job done with dependability.
Cons:
  • The suspension is a bit wallowy for our tastes and the new Accord offers more interior space.

  • Great used car - 1999 Toyota Camry

I bought my Camry for my college daughter two years ago with 85,000 miles on it. Two years later, at 115,000 miles, I have had no repairs AT ALL! The car is pleasant (not exactly a head turner) but does everything flawlessly. Great gas mileage and does exceptionally well in snow. I was surprised to find that it had ABS, a power drivers seat and a CD player. Toyota put a lot into a relatively inexpensive package.

  • A great car - 1999 Toyota Camry

Bought it used a few years ago. Besides the normal maintenance and a few burnt lightbulbs, the car is very reliable. Nice, smooth ride, good acceleration (manual transmission), good gas mileage. Starting to have a few rust spots (live in Montreal, Canada), but nothing bad. Overall, its a great car.

  • Cant beat them... period - 1999 Toyota Camry
    By -

I have owned this one since it was new. Prior to this, we had a 1992 Camry LE. So, over the last 16+ years I have driven 2 cars, both Camrys. You just cant beat these things. After 7.8 years I finally had to replace the Panasonic factory battery. Ive replaced the front brakes twice, rears once, synthetic oil (Mobil 1 5/30) since it was new. One set of tires. The AC is still working fine (and I live in Georgia!), pwr dl, wdws, cruise, transmission, etc. Flawless, never had problems, just change fluids and filters & enjoy!

  • 1999 Camry CE 286K - 1999 Toyota Camry

I have a 1999 4cyl CE that now has 286K and runs very well. Recently replaced the timing belt and gaskets as it started leaking pretty bad. I recently drove it from Wisconsin to California and back with no problems. Toyota did a great job with this vehicle!

  • Very Reliable Car - 1999 Toyota Camry

I bought this car 6 years ago. It had about 10,000 miles on it when I purchased it. I have driven this car over 100,000 miles and it still runs like new car. I had to replace the exhaust pipe once and had some repair done on the shockers which cost me about 600 dollars.

This has been an excellent family car. With the exception of a weather seal around the window on the drivers door, a couple very minor trim problems all repaired under warrenty and one recall (cruise control) that was repaired while I waited, I have had no problem with this car. Mine is a V6 with a 5 sp. manual (rare) and is a great performer. It is not a true sports sedan ie BMW but it aint bad. My teen age, son bless his heart, reports that it will do 0-60 in the 6 sec. range. After 68000+ miles I still have the orignal brakes. I usually take it to the dealer for service and wait for it and I am back on the road in a little more than an hour. We love it!!!

  • Comfy Commuter - 1999 Toyota Camry

I have had my 99 Camry for two years now. I bought the car with 56,000 miles on it and I purchased a 100,000 mile warranty, which I only used once on a $300 repair(I paid $1200 for the warranty). I would say that I am fairly rough on my car but it has withstood the test. My Camry now has 106,000 miles on it and there is not one thing, repair wise, that I can complain about. Some people say that it is a luxury car but I wouldnt go that far. It definately is more luxurious than other cars in its class though and has a much quieter ride than Accord or Altima.

  • 1999 Toyotat Camry, Great Car! - 1999 Toyota Camry
    By -

I have owned the car since it was new in 1998. It has been the most dependable car that I have ever owned. It has never broken down and left me stranded, ever. I make sure the car receives its regular maintenance and replace the belts and tires as needed. The ergonomics of the interior are great with all controls easy to reach. With the V6, I can still manage to get 30 MPG on the highway. All around a great car.

  • Nice - 1999 Toyota Camry

Its a reliable car. Not the flashiest, fastest, or most comfortable. I drive it HARD and I the only thing Ive had to replace in 70,000 miles is the brake pads (twice). I followed the maintenance schedule and have had no problems.

This is an OK car for its value. The engine isnt that powerful. I havent had any major problems with my car so far. The handeling is good. The acceleration is ok, but when there are 4 people on board you can feel that the car is "working very hard" to run. The braking doesnt feel so well. The OE tires suck. The front bumber is too close to the ground; I always hit the curve when I park. The suspention is too soft. The interior is simple and cheap. The back seats are comfortable. The engine bay is ugly.
