In an effort to make Camry ownership more affordable, Toyota adds an entry-level Standard model to the lineup this year. All 2005 Toyota Camry models receive freshened exterior styling with a new grille, headlamps, taillamps and wheel designs. All Camrys now have antilock brakes as standard equipment, and the optional automatic transmission for all models is now a five-speed unit. Inside, all Camrys feature Optitron gauges, steering wheel audio controls, a rear center headrest and upgraded seat fabrics. The XLE V6 now includes standard leather seating.

Unhappy ex-owner - 2005 Toyota Camry
By wysiwyg - September 2 - 2:06 amI had the car for 1.5 years and just got rid of it - I couldnt wait to do so. The auto tranny is awful. It hesitates when starting from full stop. Even worse, I had to make way for other cars when going uphill - it doesnt downshift unless floored. The car has big bodyroll when cornering. The steering is so light at high speed and it pulls to the right. Vague steering and a soft suspension make it drive like a boat. Worst of all, if you open the window when theres water on the roof, water drops into the car right on window & door lock buttons - a poor design. Bright spots are great fuel economy and large space. Camry is a pain.

Our second Toyota - 2005 Toyota Camry
By Jason - August 11 - 6:56 pmWe got this car to replace our sadly departed 04 Corolla LE. (moment of silence) As much as we loved that car, this one is even more pleasant to drive. I wish I could say more FUN to drive, but given a choice between excitement and fatigue vs. placidity and comfort, Ill take the latter.

We had looked at several other cars and read up on each of them, and the Camry caught my attention and kept it! I love the design of this car, it has a classy look and a smooth quiet ride. Not only did we get a nice looking car we got the fuel efficiency we were looking for. I also wanted plenty of room and comfort and the Camry came through on that as well. I love the controls right there at my fingertips,and the in dash lighting makes everything clear to see. The Camry sits high enough to where its easy to get in and out of (not too low). Weve recommended this car to everyone!

By Steven - July 22 - 8:13 pmIn light of projected fuel prices skyrocketing, I thought Id look at something more economical, with a good reputation for reliability. I like everything the Camry does. It has surprising acceleration for a four cylinder. It is smoother and quieter than the Impala. The steering is lighter but much more precise. The Camry took me from Atlanta to Tampa on 14 gallons of fuel, approximately 475 miles.

Like a Lexus ES for 10k less. - 2005 Toyota Camry
By F.P. - July 14 - 6:36 amI am amazed at the quiet and comfortable ride my Camry XLE V6 offers. The V6 engine is smooth and powerfull. The new headlights look like jewels, and the tail lights are bold and beautiful to look at, even more so than the Lexus ES. The look and quality feel of the wood/leather interior is beyond its class for a car in the 25k to 30k price range (I paid under 25k), and the many Lexus-like features and amenities dont hurt either. The XLE V6 is so comfortable to drive in that I always arrive at my destination feeling rested and ready to go, even after a long road trip. Thanks to the on board MPG computer, I can tell you that I have been averaging close to 30 MPG in mixed city/highway driving.

The best family car so far - 2005 Toyota Camry

Minimal maintnance (all you have to do is change oil and rotate tires - other items are very rare). It also has surprisingly large trunk - travel play pen, double stroller and still room for bags

Bought it new in 2005 and would drive it anywhere - 2005 Toyota Camry

My previous car was purchased new in 1995 and it was a Maxima with a six cylinder engine and five speed transmission and I kept it until I bought this Camry. It had 229,000 miles and it was a lot more fun to drive. It took me a while to get used to my Camry with a four cylinder engine and an automatic transmission and a lot of my friends teased me over this car. I used the Camry for my business and used to drive it a lot so I wanted better gas mileage. Anyway, 11 years later and with 143,000 miles and climbing I would still drive it cross country and know there would be no problems. It does smoke when I first start it if it sits for a few days and I read online that the valve seals leak (smokes for about 10 seconds) which causes the smoke but it is never down very much oil when I change it at 5,000 miles. Some people have complained about the paint but my battleship grey color has stood up very well. Anyway, it is a basic car and boring by many standards but it runs great. The maintenance has been one battery, I change the oil every 5,000 miles, tires and Ive changed the transmission oil and coolant at 70,000 miles. Ill be doing it again very soon. Also the front brakes were changed and the rear brakes are original. The exhaust, water pump, timing chain, tranny, engine, radio etc. are original. With that said, it has been a great reliable car.

Love my camry - 2005 Toyota Camry
By JB - May 26 - 8:26 pmI have been a honda owner for 20 years but purchased this Camry new in 2004 due to price, features and Toyotas reputation with manufacturing quality automobiles. I have not been disappointed. This is an excellent car. It handles well in all types of weather. It is comfortable and reliable. I didnt expect to have to do anything to this car other than other than routine maintenance and oil changes and it has not let me down. The only thing I would change if I could buy the option to apply clear coat paint protection when new. My car is deep blue and as always, people love to bang their doors into a new looking car, creating door dings that the door guard doesnt always catch.
