This Year's Model Updates:

Two new audio systems are available and both include three-in-one ETR/cassette/CD features. Also available are daytime running lights with auto-off. Vintage Red Pearl, Sable Pearl and Woodland Pearl replace Sunfire Red Pearl, Ruby Red and Classic Green Pearl.

Pros:
  • When it comes to people moving, the Camry gets the job done with dependability.
Cons:
  • The suspension is a bit wallowy for our tastes and the new Accord offers more interior space.

  • Reliable, but plain grandma car - 1999 Toyota Camry
    By -

I drove this car up until a few weeks ago. It was in the family since new. It was very reliable, and never broke down on me until the very end. It lasted until 190K miles, but it probably could have lasted longer if I had spent money to investigate the check engine light. Then one day the head gasket blew and the engine overheated and that was the end of it. Before that, all normal maintenance repairs for its age. A very boring, plain vehicle but if youre looking for a reliable mid size sedan with reasonable acceleration power, this is for you.

Having owned nothing but Japanese, I had high expectations from this Camry. It definitely hasnt let me down in mechanical quality, but I can tell the quality of some interior features and window moldings, weather strips, and other plastic/rubber parts are inferior to Honda and Mazda. But it is definitely more comfortable and quiet, so its a trade-off. If yours failed on you, its human error. Dont take care of it and like any car, it will perish. (it just takes longer to kill it than a Detroit product)

  • Awesome Car - 1999 Toyota Camry

My 99 Camry has 285,000 miles on it. Nothing has been done to it except regular maintenance like the timing belt and oil change. It still has the original motor and engine. Im looking for other cars in case this one just break down but so far Ive havent had any problems! I had this care since 99 and I LOVE it. The speakers are great and nothing is more reliable. Toyota needs to go back to making cars like they did in 1999!

  • What a Joke - 1999 Toyota Camry

Sure seemed like an excellent used car at the time I bought it for my mom, exactly one year ago. At only 63K miles it smokes when cold (valve stem seals), clunks on small bumps (strut mounts), all the painted plastic has faded (bumpers, mirrors, door handles), exterior door handle falling off (cheap plastic). I should have spent thousands less and bought American. Extremely disappointed in this smoking rattle-trap. There are TSBs on the problems we have, so these are not maintenance issues - I regret ever buying this car - cant sell it without doing a valve job at ONLY 63K MILES! NOT a solid car.

  • Smooth Riding Beauty - 1999 Toyota Camry

I was looking for an Impala, but as soon as I saw this camry, I was bought. It has everything that I wanted, like sunroof, alloy wheels smooth ride and a knock out punch form the V6 and a very good music system with cassette and cd. Realiability and ride quality are unbeatable as for any Toyota. Although handling is not quite stiff, but its very much accurate and more than sufficient for turning with 10 to 20 above speed limit on freeway exit ramps. I love this car.

  • 2nd Camry - 1999 Toyota Camry

I enjoy driving my 1999 Camry. I think it is very comfortable and have been told by my passengers that they also feel very comfortable. I have frequently driven from Florida to Vermont and back again and have never felt uncomfortable in the drivers seat. I have over 60,000 miles on my car and have not done any work on the Camry other than regular oil changes. I think the look of the Camry is a little boring, but it performs well.

  • Good reliable car - 1999 Toyota Camry

I bought a 99 Camry about 5 years ago that had 160,000 miles, hoping to get a couple of years out of it. It now has 330,000 miles and still going strong, very very reliable, starts every time, I do nothing to it except regular oil changes. Only thing wrong with it is that when it rains then freezes you cant get the doors open, so the door handle broke off. Minor thing overall. The engine and transmission work well and just a reliable, if plain car. Would recommend it to anyone.

  • What a car.... - 1999 Toyota Camry

I bought mine back in the Summer of 1999. I owned a 1992 model prior to this. Said another way, I have driven 2 Camrys over the last 19 years. Both were absolutely excellent. I was lucky, this one was built in Japan. The car has been flawless. 137K miles on it now. The AC, Power Windows have never gone down. The original Panasonic Battery lasted 8.5 years. I finally put a starter in it last year at 11.5 years of age. This car, without a doubt, has been the most reliable and competent vehicle I have ever owned, bar none. Its one of those models that if if you can find a clean, well-maintained one. BUY IT. What it lacks in appeal it more than makes up for in reliability.

  • Overall Great Car - 1999 Toyota Camry
    By -

I bought the Camry in April of 2002 and have had no major problems at all. The car is great on gas milage and has adequate power on city streets. Besides normal wear and tear the only issue i have had is the passanger door window motor which was inepensive to replace. Only complaints are that the rear cup holders are easily broken, that the car rides low or the suspension is too giving that the car scrapes its undercarriage alot on bumps, and that the stereo has no lights on the buttons to see at night; only glow in the dark stickers.

/tis car is like a good appliance, boring but you never have to worry about it. In 5 years weve had to replace the clutch and tires but nothing else. Runs in -40 weather without a block heater. I figure it has at least anither 5 years in it.
