  • Dont miss Explorer... - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I bought this to replace my 98 Explorer. There is no comparison between the two. My 4Runner feels like a bank vault in comparison, and is just a nicer, better vehicle in almost every way, except the auto 4x4 which I miss using (but not fixing). I passed up new baby SUVs and newer domestics that cost the same so I could get Toyota quality and a real truck. I was really burned on my Explorer as it was constantly in the shop. Lesson learned.

Love it! Ive wanted a 4Runner for 10 years, Now I have one and it was worth the wait. Love the off road capabilities and styling.

I have never got stuck off-roading. The high torque is exceptional for the low range 4-wheel drive and for towing, not too quick off the line though. The fuel economy is also a little hard to swallow. For the few who it caters to it is an aftermarket optioners dream S.U.V. All interior panels are easy to remove with common hand tools which makes self instalation of stereos, speakers, lights, etc. a real snap. I have had my 2000 SR5 4WD for almost three years and it still runs like the day I bought it.

  • Reliable, just wish it had more hp - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I traded in an older 4Runner for this one back in 2001. If youre looking for a reliable SUV, this is the one. Its well built. The only issue Ive had is the infamous Maine road salt has required a fix of the parking brake. It offers some great features and is a true off-road SUV. It will get you there and back again in style.

  • Best SUV ever! - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I am a petite girl and the 4Runner is the only SUV that I have driven that I can fit comfortably without being on top of the steering wheel. I have owned my truck for 32 months, have 51,000 miles on it and its never been in the shop for anything other then oil changes and scheduled maintenace. I plan on keeping it for a really long time!

  • 2000 SR5...11 years running - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I bought this SUV used with 106,000 on it back in 2006. So 5 years later I now have 226,000 miles on it and still pretty satisfied with the overall performance. The few complaints would be 1) brake pads/rotor replaced 3 times in 5 years 2) the uneasiness of driving with high winds swirling thus causing the SUV to sway 3) fuel filter replaced 2 times 4) rear axle replaced 3 times 5) power antenna went out 2 times but radio still plays...other than those complaints it has been mechanically sound and I wouldnt doubt it going for another 100,000 miles.

  • Reliable - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I have owned my 4runner for 6yrs and have 167,000 miles on it and have done nothing but regular maintenance. It is a little under powered but very reliable. I have been on several trails in Moab and in the Black Hills of SD, (great 4wd system) I have the Sport package with the electronic locker in the rear diff. Toyota has built a very reliable and dependable vehicle with this one.

  • Great Truck!!! - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Looks great and is fun to drive around town. It does well off-road with the rear locker. Probably my favorite car so far.

  • 4 Runner Transmission Problems - 2000 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

Car was a great car until about 70K. Had a couple little issues. One is a rattle that we have been unable to solve somewhere in Dash. Car is slightly underpowered. V6 strains over those hills when you get any kind of steep roads like Flagstaff, AZ or mountains west of Denver, Etc. Shutting overdrive off helps immensely. At 81K would not come out of 4 wheel drive. Replaced 4x4 actuator in transfer case ($1500). At 90K same problem, dealer says it needs a whole new transfer case costing ($3700). This will now become a 2wd 4 runner until its sold. I am told by dealer Toyota will do nothing. Very disappointed in the quality. Any car that u have major stuff before 120K is a sub par.

  • Reliable, Solid, yet... - 2000 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

The 4Runner is solid, but a stiff ride. The interior is more cramped than my old Grand Cherokee but the seats more comfortable. The V6 is adequate for most unless you like power. With a load & passengers, it will seem very slow. No rattles or sqeaks is a tribute to the quality but my pwr antenna went out (warranty) and front floor mat ripped. CD player skips out. Minor problems for what is overall a fine vehicle. Gas mileage is about 14- 15 in town, almost 20 on freeway. Stock Bridgestone tires wear quickly.
