This Year's Model Updates:

Not much has changed this year for Toyota's truck-based 4Runner SUV. The SR5's optional Sport package has gained a front skid plate, floor mats and new tube step-up bars (optional). Handsome 15-inch alloy wheels are now standard, there's a new chrome package available, and Golden Pearl has been added to the Limited's selection of exterior colors.

Pros:
  • Great crash-test scores, roomy interior, truck-tough underpinnings, power-down hatch glass, standard stability and traction control, brake assist system.
Cons:
  • Hard to climb into and out of, dated dashboard design, weak V6 engine, truck-like ride quality and handling.

Toyota performance at its best! This SUV cannot be surpassed for quality and reliability and just plain fun. It never fails to perform and outperform other SUVs in its class. This vehicle has 129,000 miles and is still like new in many ways. If you can find one, buy it!

  • A Great SUV - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

After having the suv for more than 3 years, I find no major problem with the car. The only thing is that the car tend to shake a little when breaking. I asked the dealer to look into the problem and they said its just the surface of the break pad is either dirty or uneven. To fix the problem I need to replace the whole break pad which can cost over $200. So I am just gonna leave it alone until its time for new ones. Otherwise no other major problems. The car runs great and its so much fun to drive. Its also got a great look but the new 2003 model looks a lot better.

I went from a Grand Cherokee to a BMW 3 Series and then to the 02 4Runner Sport Edition. I had an 88 4Runner with the removable top.. (super cool truck) and now I am back to Toyota again. I test drove every SUV out there and while it may not be the best bargain up front, I am sure it will pay off in the long run. Check the prices on used 4Runners. Theyre almost as much used as they are new! I have yet to regret making this purchase. I bet you wont be either!

My friend had a 4 Runner and never had any problems with it. I decided to buy one when I was in the market for a new car. Ive had my 4 Runner for a year now. No problems thus far. We can have some nasty winters here. I havent had any problems getting around. Its fun to drive. I would buy again.

My 4Runner is the best car Ive owned. Fun, too! It kicks butt in 4WD. It has plenty of power & tows an open trailer very well. Sorry to see that they changed the body style in 03.

Ive owned my 4Runner since new. Four years and 75k miles later I have to say I dont regret the purchase one bit. My 4Runner has been very reliable and I havent had a single problem with it. Routine mx is all that has been required and I usually stretch that out. It rides like a truck, which I like. The 4x4 is outstanding on the snow and ice. The only complaint of course is the gas mileage (16/21ish mpg). It doesnt run as well on 87 grade fuel. But I knew all this when buying the vehicle. I highly recommend!

  • Would by another one in a heartbeat - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

I bought my 4Runner with 32K miles on it, it now has 165K miles on it. It has been the most reliable vehicle. I have owned. I have taken it on many road trips, and it has never failed me. Driving over pot holes and speed bumps it is a rough ride. But since that is on a rare occasion, over all I am pleased. I have leather, and after 8 years of wear and tear, it does need to be replaced. It is just now starting to show its age, and even then it is still a good looking vehicle.

This is my 3rd 4-runner and I absolutely love them. I finally got my limited and I love the quality, design and service after the sale. You will not find a better quality vehicle for the price. You get what you pay for and this vehicle costs a little more, but, it will run for 250,000 miles rather than the usual 100,000 you find elsewhere. I would recommend this vehicle for someone who wants quality without getting into a Lexus!!

We purchase our first Toyota last year, and wish we would have done it sooner!!!!! We couldnt ask for a better vehicle. The reviews say "truck- like ride", they are so wrong, and we would know we also have a F-250; now that is a truck ride. The only drawback is the seats are a little small, but not too uncomfortable. Toyota has found a loyal consumer in us!!!!!!!!
