This Year's Model Updates:

Not much has changed this year for Toyota's truck-based 4Runner SUV. The SR5's optional Sport package has gained a front skid plate, floor mats and new tube step-up bars (optional). Handsome 15-inch alloy wheels are now standard, there's a new chrome package available, and Golden Pearl has been added to the Limited's selection of exterior colors.

Pros:
  • Great crash-test scores, roomy interior, truck-tough underpinnings, power-down hatch glass, standard stability and traction control, brake assist system.
Cons:
  • Hard to climb into and out of, dated dashboard design, weak V6 engine, truck-like ride quality and handling.

  • Sporty and Reliability Here... - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

I love my 2002 Toyota 4Runner. It is extremely reliable, comfortable, and great looking. The only problem I have with the vehicle is the power. If you intend on buying one of these vehicles, I urge you to have a TRD Supercharger installed by your local dealer. I will carry the same powertrain warranty as the engine and pumps up horsepower from a dismal 183 bhp to 265 bhp.

I bought my 4Runner new with the sports package that includes running boards, hood scoop, bumper plate, etc. I have had no problems with it and it performs very good offroad. I highly recommend getting one with 4wd, which makes it much funner to drive.

I purchased the 2002 4 Runner Sport with added leather interior, and all the bolt on exterior goodies for my high school son in new 2002. I drove it during his first year in college since he could not have a car on campus. I thought it was great; very honest vehicle. I have owned five Toyotas and this is the best for reliability. The vehicle now has 66,000 miles, never had anything wrong, not even a rattle. Just normal maintenance. The best news, he is purchasing a new car and he is giving the 4 Runner to me. I am sure he will miss it.

The front discs on the brake system keeps on getting warped. Some engine parts are noisy for a brand new car.

  • A good SUV - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

a solid vechicle, one of the best mid- size out there. had it for a year and half now, no problem at all.

  • GET ONE FOR YOURSELF !!!! - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

I wanted to wait a year or two before writing this, you know, to see what was going to break. I took this near 40k truck off road on the way home from the dealer,it was so much fun that I go off road at least once a weak.No rattels, sqweeks or leaks.THANK YOU TOYOTA!!!!

  • Bye Bye Explorer, Hello Quality - 2002 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

My previous two vehicles were Explorers. Each one ranks as junk next to the 4Runner. I cannot describe how much of a HUGE increase in quality this vehicle has been. I am so happy I bought this vehicle. I do not plan to ever sell it. My only complaint is that the drivers seat would go 1" lower, as I have a tall torso. But, that is not a big complaint. I would recommend this truck to anyone I like, the Explorer to anyone I dont like. I bought it now so I could order exactly what I wanted before the redesign. This has always been my favorite looking SUV, and everything else about it has fallen in line...

  • Time to Redesign - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

Has this design been around for what seems like 15 years now. For todays standards, this SUV is underpowered. The interior is very tight especially the width and lack of rear legroom. The ride is rough. Unless you offroad, forget it.

  • relay switch - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

I was quite disappointed with my new 2002 Toyota 4 Runner. I have always wanted one and since now I can afford it my husband bought it for me. Now I am not happy with it as the vehicle make a click sound in which I was told by the dealer shop that it is a relay switch in which is in all the 2002 Toyota 4 Runners. I did not test drive it as I have test driven other before in hopes of one day getting one.

  • Just picked it up. - 2002 Toyota 4Runner

I purchased because of the great lease from Chase Bank on this car for 39 months. Check it out. Slower then my Radio but some nicer features such as sliding rear window, nicer leather, and more room. Warranty needs to be longer. Tons of room. Easy to use controls. My 2nd Toyota, I could fit my first one into the back.
