Optional color-coordinated fender flares are available on the SR5. An AM/FM/cassette/CD is now available on base models, and is standard on SR5 and Limited models. Daytime running lights are now included with the antilock brake package.

Pros:
  • Great crash-test scores, roomy interior, truck-tough underpinnings, power-down hatch glass, standard VSC with traction control, brake assist system.
Cons:
  • Hard to climb in and out of, dated dashboard design, weak V6 engine, truck-like ride quality and handling.

  • LOVE IT! - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

This is my second 4Runner, first one was a SR5 Sport, and now the Limited. In over 20K miles in one year the only things Ive replaced are the tires and the oil and filter. This is a real- deal truck/suv, not based on a car unibody design. Being tall makes the seats feel a bit short to me and with a lot of towing Id like more power, but for daily driving, camping, off-road, this thing is the best in its class! Up to MY2003, this is the last class of 4Runner made in Japan. That says something and the new body style is too "edgy." Love the 4Runner!!

This is the SUV for a person who still likes to drive a SUV with a rugged feel. It drives excellent on and off roads. The 4Runner has a great look.

This is a great truck. It has never given me any problems, soild as a rock. It looks great, has more than enough space, drives well on the road, what else can I say? The best vehicle I have ever owned without a doubt. Much more reliable than my parents Dodge or Jimmy SUV/trucks. Very capable off road as well. I have several pictures of my 4 Runner pulling out the very stuck Jeep of my good friend. Even my dog loves to stick his head out of the sunroof while driving through town. The only negative is that it is pretty thirsty when it comes to the pumps but that is the price you pay for the weight and big rubber.

  • Solid, reliable, well built SUV - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Bought my 00 Limited 4x4 Runner with 111,000 miles. Everyone said "why would you buy a car with that many miles?" blah blah blah, I knew better. Ive had it for 4 years now, has 171,000 miles and runs like new, havent had a single repair. Ive done routine maintenance - oil changes, a tuneup (plugs, wires, fuel filter) and new front brakes. ZERO repairs, it always starts, cold does not bother it. When I need to go off-road or in the snow its an animal, and with the rear locker that Jeep people wish they had, its basically unstoppable.

This is an awesome vehicle. It looks great, drives great, thrashes around well in the woods and only asks for more fuel in return. I use this truck for your normal highway use but it gets a lot of off road use as well. I have been stuck but its been my fault. As long as the wheels have something to grab, it moves forward. The only complaint would have to be the fuel costs but its better than paying for repairs like the jeep I use to own.

Ive had my 4Runner limited for 2 years and havnt had any issues at all. I have taken it out 4 wheeling many times and I was extremely suprised at how well it handles off road. I also commute to work about 80 miles a day. So if your looking for a SUV that looks nice and drives awesome this is the one. I also have a xterra and the 4 runner blows it off the road.

I love it. Ive always wanted one, and now that I have had one for the past year, my opinion hasnt changed. I still want it and love driving it. It serves both the desire of luxury and ruggedness. Have compared it to friends Explorer, Durango, Jeep, Bravado, and love the 4runner so much more. It just seems much more "tight" than others.

  • Runs Like a Tank - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I have had my 4runner since 2002 and have taken it on several cross country trips. It now has over 130,000 miles on it and it has never let me down. I have also taken down the beaches in Mexico and I find myself pulling others out. The only thing other than routine maintenance like a timing belt was I had to replace the starter once. It performs well both on and off road and it cannot be beat for reliability. I would highly recommend this vehicle.

  • Great midsize SUV - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

The 2k Toyota 4Runner is a very capable SUV both on and off road. With rugged styling and truck toughness to match, this is a refreshinly capable truck in a world full of pavement queens. The last year of a manual transmission, 4 cylinder, as well as a selectable rear locker make this a good model, also for those who like driver control the VSC system was still optional. As a truck that does not compromise off-road ability for a cushy ride expect to feel bumps, but this stiffness also lends to its on road handling prowess.
