Pros:
  • Great crash-test scores, roomy interior, truck-tough underpinnings, power-down hatch glass, standard VSC with traction control, brake assist system.
Cons:
  • Hard to climb in and out of, dated dashboard design, weak V6 engine, truck-like ride quality and handling.

  • Versatility and Value. Will last 4ever. - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Why spend 13 grand on a 2000 Toyota? Theres simply no vehicle out there like it. Incredibly versatile. 4 door, 4wd, V6, manual tranny (i might look at a new one if they still offered the stick), decent gas mileage (way better than the Jeep I used to drive), composed on the highway, QUIET for an SUV, really comfortable sport seats, laughs at the snow, and of course Toyota reliability. The build quality is ridiculous. 8 years old and no rattles or squeaks. Almost feels like a convertible with the windows down, the tailgate window down, and the sunroof open. I paid a lot more than I would have for a 2000 Explorer, but compare it to a new 4Runner and its a no-brainer. Will go forever.

I have trusted it and it broke down once because of a starter that i did not change which is suppose to be changed every 10 years. And since then i havent had a problem great car. Going to give it to my 16 year old.

I bought mine brand new, and it still drives like I just drove it off the lot. While putting 75K miles on it, Ive had minimal problems. Had to replace power antenna, and the CD player just quit working one day. As for how it drives, no other SUV in its category comes close. If you choose the 4Runner, you wont be dissapointed.

This is our second 4Runner. The first was a 1990 SR5 with 167,000 miles on it. We sold it when we moved to Florida. Kept the 2000 model and its got 90,000 miles on it now and still runs like new. We bought it used with 21,000 miles on it in 2002. Its been a great vehicle just like the 90 was. Wished we hadnt sold the 90 4Runner now. We bought it with 70,000 miles on it (90 4Runner). Were currently looking to buy another one for a second car. Most likely another 2000 or 2001.

  • Back to a Toyota - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Bought my 2000 4Runner XR5 in 2009 with a little over 100,000 miles on it. After "experimenting" with a Ford Expedition (Junk) and Chevy Suburban (actually not a bad vehicle), I am glad to be back to Toyota. Styling is timeless and it runs like a top. My only complaint is that it is underpowered. Although it has a 5000 lb tow rating, it labors to pull my 2,500 lb boat, especially going up hills. Other than that, it has been a great vehicle.

This is a fantastic vehicle; only suggested improvement is a larger gas tank.

  • 8 years and going strong - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Bought new in 2000 and never had a problem with it except when I had to replace the battery in the keyless remote. Oh, and when the car battery (finally) died a few months ago (it lasted almost 8 years!!). Great if you really need 4WD and road clearance. I put it in 4WD daily on our mountain road. We love our 4Runner. My husband wants to buy me a new vehicle, but Im not ready to give this one up! Conservative dash, no bling. Boring stereo, cd player skips on curves and mountain roads.

  • Awesome SUV - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I ordered a Highlander (Sport) model with the TRD supercharger in late 1999 and have owned this ever since. It still rides like new, the car looks awesome with the hood scoop. I have not seen a better looking SUV. The newer 4Runners have too much cladding. This body style is very clean looking. Not the most powerful SUV but very quick. You cant beat Toyota reliability. Excluding maintenance costs, I have spent $0 repairs since purchasing the car.

  • Fun with 4Runner - 2000 Toyota 4Runner

I bought this new and now have about 115000 miles. The ride, the comfort and the reliability have been beyond belief. The only problem was the power antenna that failed at 65,000 miles. Power antenna seems to be Toyotas problem even with Camry and Lexus. The radio still works! I changed the original Goodyear tires at 108000 miles, they still had 3/16th left in them. I changed because it was more than 5 years! The brake pads are still the orignal shoes!!. Mine is a standard shift. I am loving it and hope to drive for another 5 years.
