Overview & Reviews
Subaru commemorates 35 years of selling cars in the U.S. by offering a 35th anniversary special edition of the Outback H6-3.0 wagon, though this amounts to little more than a new alloy wheel design and a fender-mounted badge. Red Burl interior trim is new for the Outback this year, and six-cylinder models get restyled 16-inch wheels. L.L. Bean and Limited models get a new brown leather covering on the shifter handle, brake handle and steering wheel.
- Standard all-wheel drive, comfortable ride on pavement, capable performance on dirt, well-appointed interior.
- Not as capable as an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability or interior volume, four-cylinder models lack power, upscale models are expensive.

Wont buy another! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Snubby - October 11 - 10:00 amI bought a new Subaru Outback Model 2004, While a very pretty car to look at, I am disapointed with many features. It is impossible to not have the car jerk when stopping or starting from a dead stop. The seats (and I put in Leather...paid extra) Are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in. They are causing problems with my back and hips....big time....my wife is also experiencing the same. You have to be an acrobat just to step in and out of the car...you just can step in like any other normal car..I have to twist and turn and do the hokey pokey just to enter the darn thing. Its only a couple of months old but I plan to trade it in ASAP.

Get Back to the Drawing Boards - 2004 Subaru Outback
By sfsailman - July 24 - 8:46 pmWhat a dog this car is. Funny looking side panels, what are those about. Ever try to transport a dog in the back? No ventilation = unhappy pet. Cup holders are useless since they are too far back. And the thing auto shifts at the strangest times. Now it sounds like its blowing its nose around 1500 RPMs. Im going back to Toyota where I should have stayed. Give me back my Tacoma, please.

Unhappy owner - 2004 Subaru Outback
By CEP - May 23 - 6:33 pmBased on my experience with this vehicle, I will never again purchase or recommend a Subaru vehicle. At 50,000 miles, so many items began to fail. Six air conditioning repairs, both CV boots burned up because of a design problem, then at 78,000 miles, all the struts needed to be replaced. I am still paying on this vehicle and spend on average another $4000/year to maintain it in good working order. Now the finish on the fiberglass bumper is peeling, the engine continually has a burning odor that cant be identified, and the AC still freezes after a 200 mile trip in the heat. The car is a disaster.
