Pros:
  • Innovative rear-access doors on coupe, customer-focused dealers, numerous personalization options, great cargo capacity.
Cons:
  • Build quality not up to segment standards, unusual styling, lack of established service and repair history.

  • Good for Big, Old Boys - 2003 Saturn ION

Im 62", over 200 lbs and 64 years old. I can get in and out of the ION easily and just completed a 2000-mile trip with one 9-hour-days journey. I was never uncomfortable or saddle- sore. The ION had all the power I needed on the turnpikes and on the hills with 32 mpg. I got my first speeding ticket in 20 years. Dang! My other cars a Miata.

I purchased this car for my wife to commute back and forth to work. For this it has performed flawlessly. It averages 30 mpg overall. Have had only one problem - was able to pull the key out while driving. I would not take this car on a long trip with my three kids in the back, but that is what the minivan was made for.

The online reviews are all wrong. This car is fun to drive. Corners great with the 16" wheels & electric steering in the mountains. I live at 10,000 ft. altitude and notice no power loss, even with 2 passengers. The styling inside & out makes it different than the others which is great; who wants to be a clone? I am getting 29 mpg. Can you get a Honda, Nissan or Subaru at this price, with these options at 0-1.9% loan interest? I doubt it. The silver roof rails on the white car with the killer rims gets looks.

The ION is frisky and fun to drive. The ride is very composed---even at 80 mph. I achieved 30 mpg on my first tank of gas (half were highway miles). I was initially put off by the interior, particularly the center mounted instrument panel. It took me about 5 minutes to get used to it. I visited the Syracuse Auto Show yesterday and sat in a lot of cars. I was struck by the fact that I found myself thinking over and over again: “This car’s instrument panel is really strange. It is hidden behind the steering wheel.” I actually find myself preferring the center mounted instrument panel. It gives you a clear view and is kind of funky.

  • Saturn Rocks! - 2003 Saturn ION

I bought my car on December 23rd, 2002 at the Saturn of Birmingham AL dealership. The folks were freindly, and very helpful. It had 8 miles on it when i drove it off the lot. As of today, February 9th, 2003, it has 2400 miles on it. I drive my car everywhere!!! So far... this car is awesome! I would reccomend it to anyone and everyone. I find it to be very trendy, sporty, and it drives very nice and smooth. Plus- it is very spacious.

  • Great, Modern Car - 2003 Saturn ION

The ION is an excellent example of a modern ecomomy car. It has lots of power for a four-banger, the interior is surprisingly roomy, there are plenty of nice options, and everything seems to be of good quality. When driving it, youd think you were driving a small V6, not a four. With the DOHC engine and 16-valves, along with more than enough horsepower, my ION gets off stoplights quicker than most of my friends V6 equipped cars. With the independent suspension, it rides and corners nice. Overall rating-9.

  • First New Car - 2003 Saturn ION

This is my 1st new car purchased. The ride is nice and quiet, one of the best I have had in my 15 years on the road. The drivers headroom is insane. I am pushing 6-4 and I could probably sport a cowboy style hat and still have room <--*havent tried this* The leg room could be a little more generous, and I dont think there is any hope in getting a passenger to sit comfortably in the driver-side rear seat. The car does not seem to handle as well as some in the snow. The ABS/Traction control which may have offered me better performance. Otherwise the power and handling are great. It did take a little getting used to the tight turning.
