This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

Ive been very impressed with how this car handles & drives! It looks sharp & sporty but retains the comfort & roomy- ness of a family sedan.

I leased the car for my daughter not knowing that I was leasing a swimming pool at the same time. On my fourth trip to dealer trying to get water leak/mildew smell taken car of. On my 12th GM car in the last 10 years and I am thinking about ditching this process. I am tired of the run around, Maybe some of the service reps should get the boot like what they have done with all the engineers. Just a wishful thought. I am at the point where I need to hire a life guard to oversee the water activities in the G6. Anyone else had this much fun with mold. Car is on the fourth trip to dealership with new seats, carpet , and been deionzed 6 times. Maybe GM and febreeze can make a commercial. Good PR...

  • Great for the money - 2006 Pontiac G6

I love this car, My problem has been in the steering wheel... The car seems to do its own thing when driving between 50 and 70 on open roads alot of play in the wheel. but the seats are great!!! I traded in my Ford Escape for this car and drove the Altima and the Jetta and picked this one due to the DIS system in the radio along with some extras that they didnt come with. I feel that ABS sytems should be standard on all units in the 05 and current line up. I find it a hazzard not to have it. Oh and word to the wise..... the gas mileage is true. My avg. is at 26 if not better. ALso I se that the G6s rear is a copy of the Chevy Cobalt.

The performance on this car is amazing, its 240 hp are extremely underrated. I opted for the automatic because the manual wasnt available at the time of purchase, if I had to buy again Id buy the manual. The interior is great, except people over 6 ft tall will have head room problems in the back. The only downside of this car is fuel economy, I have a hard time getting over 23.5 mpg (another reason to get a manual), although for vacation driving on the highway it will get around 25 mpg if you keep the cruise on. This has been a great vehicle and Id highly recommend it to anyone.

I upgraded to the G6 from a Cavalier, and I absolutely love it! I have the moonroof, 6 disk changer, adjustable pedals, and driver information panel on the stereo panel. Only one problem in the second year Ive had the car, and that is the brake/brake lights. When taking the car out of park and applying the brake, the shifter would lock. Dealership replaced a brake component. Then, the brake lights were engaged when I was driving, and they would disengage when I applied the brake. Dealership replaced the other component that is linked to the brakes. No problems since!

I love my G6! When I had went looking for cars I was looking for something sporty, but without the gas mileage of a sports car. I got exactly that with the G6 GTP. It has a lot of pickup and go. The sunroof is awesome for nice weather and the sound system is out of this world. The mileage is OK. I would like a little more, but the other benefits outweigh that by far.

Bought this car about 5 months ago. Still look forward to driving to work everyday. Performance is great for the money. Would not race it against a 300Z, but also paid a lot less. Ride is smooth, quiet and comfortable. I used to think my wifes MPV was quiet until I drove this.

  • great car for a better price - 2006 Pontiac G6

since people that dont know about cars are scared to buy pontiacs, this car is cheap. i got mine with 64k miles and ive put 3k on it. love this car. not great on gas due to gearing but i put an intake on it and it helps. love the handling. its firm but not uncomfortable. engine is amazing other then the electronic throttle...not a fan. i like my throttle cable just fine and didnt see a need for electronic. everything works great and this car is just so pretty.

I agree with lots of people here. Fit and finish is awesome for the price. Comfort is astounding if you like supportive seats. My wife hates the support bolstering on the front seats, claiming it hurts the back of her legs on exiting, but shes not into "spirited cornering" either. Heres the clincher... I test drove only a couple cars, mostly because I prefer small cars and Im not a small guy. Im 65" and 285lbs. I dont fit into anything else in this price range that is fun to drive (Scion TC, 06 Civic, Mazda3). But I fit in the G6 and have room to grow. The power adjustable height drops the seat far enough down that I have head room even with the regular power sunroof option.

  • Great machine - 2006 Pontiac G6

I have only driven the GT for 3 weeks, am very excited with all aspects of the vehicle. Sound system (monsoon) is superior, seating is similar to my previous Firebird, which is no longer produced. Adjustable pedals a plus, very smooth ride with excellent gas mileage (30mpg) on the interstate. My Fusion orange color turns heads. Plenty of rear seat room.
