The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Dont Make Our Mistake - 2006 Pontiac G6
By ddd017 - September 2 - 4:10 amUgh. We wanted to buy American but the G6 2-door convertible is a mistake we will not make again. We have not even finished paying off the 3-year loan and cant wait to get rid of it! Just had the entire exhaust system replaced ($1200!), weve had 3 flat tires (driver side back tire) and numerous trips for the rattles. Horrible in snow, no tractionIt takes FOREVER to retract the hardtop & you lose the trunk if the top is down. The lower dash/glove compartment areas shows every little mark if you brush up against it. Horrible trying to get into the back seats. "Terrable, terrable, terrable" as Charles Barkley would say. DONT make our mistake - RUN, RUN as fast as you can AWAY from this car.

By Jenny - August 22 - 8:26 amThe car is great there are only 2 negatives. The first is that i should have gotten the spoiler on the back, not for visual reasons but for function. The trunk doesnt have a spot to grab onto when you open it so if you have an armfull of anything it can be inconvenient. The other dislike is the front end comes to a very low point. You have to be very careful not to pull into a space too far or you may hit the curb or another car and damage the front end. Other than that it is an awesome car and i love it. It is very quiet and beautiful to look at!

By pr0gr4m - August 21 - 3:20 amI really dont like the monsoon sound system, its too boomy. I dont know if thats just mine or if all the monsoon systems sound like that. As Gib mentioned there is a leak problem but its the sunroof, not the windows. The sunroofs drainage hose pops loose. Once reconnected, all is well. I love driving the car but wish it got better mileage. My old V6 (Dodge Avenger) would get 300+ miles per tank full. This one just gets 240-280, unless I take a long highway trip, then the mileage jumps. I like automatic but wish it were a 5 speed, or 4 spd w/overdrive. Theres always gonna be problems, but these arent deal breakers for me. I really do enjoy this car and recommend it. Its FUN!

No Help at Dealer - Under Warranty - 2006 Pontiac G6
By electrified1 - August 7 - 5:23 pmThe 6 speed manual tranny is a blast to drive. Gear ratios are perfect, especially in stop and go traffic. I can make u-turns going over 25mph. The dealer has tried to fix my leaking sunroof 3 times. They have turned my brake rotors 5 times. the motor mounts make a horrible noise. power steering groans in cold weather. Airbag light just came on. I am out of warranty and now had to fix my sunroof, brakes, engine mount myself. I would call it a piece of junk but if the dealer had fixed it the first time.... it would have been the best car I have ever had.

By frago - July 29 - 4:00 pmJust scored a 2006 GTP Coupe with a six speed manual trans and it is an amazing little car. Super fun to drive with power galore. Massive interior yet its still very sporty. I am 6 feet 4 and with the seat adjusted all the way back my legs are fully extended and very confortable. I have the sun roof and still have great head clearance. Very slick car.

My G6 Lemon - 2006 Pontiac G6
By jandkds - July 15 - 5:53 amI bought my G6 a little over a year ago and was very happy with it even though it had some odd noises. Now if you try to accelerate the engine cuts out and the light comes on. Almost killed when engine cut out while passing someone. Dangerous! Has been in the shop 5 times for the issue (and others) told it just isnt meant to accelerate? (what, no highway driving or passing?) I dont believe it. I am ready to voluntarily have it reposessed and ruin my credit. I now officially hate this death trap. Whats up GM, why no recalls on the faulty computer?

If only I had known. - 2006 Pontiac G6
By Jaybaby727 - June 16 - 9:56 amI am so disappointed to see that I have all of the exact same problems that the folks here have had with their G6 4dr Sedan. I thought I was getting a really awesome car when I bought it over a year ago. NOT SO. Steering wheel pops& is hard to control (wobbles) brakes (front AND back) have been replaced, rotors, tie rod ends. YOU NAME IT, its gone bad! Im unable to trade it in because of the loss of value and I am sickened to think that I am stuck with this for at least another year. Its at the dealership NOW being evaluated - probably for naught, because I thought (stupidly) that after having all this work done at my local tire shop, THEY were the wrong ones. Now I see its GM!

Wonderful Car - 2006 Pontiac G6
By clomregcik - May 1 - 5:03 amIf I didnt know much about used cars I wouldnt like this one. I have had some issues, but nothing that wasnt expected out of a vehicle with over 100,000 miles that wasnt maintained properly. Everything still works on it, and nothing major has gone bad. The most Ive had to do was replace back rotors and brake pads after I got it because they had been let go for way too long. Its a joy to drive, the perfect balance of feedback and comfort. It has a good pick up to it, and wouldnt have any issues at highway speeds if I didnt have a bent wheel (aftermarket wheels). Even for not being maintained this car is surprisingly sturdy and is still running strong.

By Amanda - April 29 - 4:46 pmThis is such a wonderful car. Its my baby I love it so much. Im so glad i picked this car. it was this or the chevy cobalt and i picked the pontiac G6. I thought there might be problems with it because its the first everbut there was nothing wrong with it.
