This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

  • Fun to drive, not too shabby too look at - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

Car runs beautifully, bought it fully loaded, with more features than I could imagine. Great handling and acceleration. Gas mileage could be better, but I do get at least 300 miles before I need to refuel. Really fun to drive, yet big enough to fit more than one adult comfortably. Easy functions as a "mom" car, without sacrificing style!

Bought my 06 g6 gtp sedan 3 yrs ago with 49,000 miles. I now have 80,000 miles. My breaks needed changed after awhile and I put the best ceramic pads on and cheaper rotors. Had loud squeky brakes til I put acid wheel cleaner on the rotors to get the glaze off. Wheel bearing hub assembly went out around 60k on front passenger was $120 to fix myself wasnt hard. Thats the only thing thats gone wrong. Get your transmission fluid and filter change at 50k and every 30k after. Its only $80. Changed spark plugs today cost $44.88 dealer reccomends changing at 100,000 miles but mine were definitly due at 75,000. Use the oem ac delco plugs "iridium". Replace all parts with acdelco or you will have prob

  • Great car, horrible sunroof - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

I love the G6, its a beautiful well running car. The wind noise in the panoramic sunroof is so bad that i would not buy it again. It sounds as though the window is cracked. There is no beauty or no amount of performance that makes up for the noise and water leaks in this sunroof. Beware if you buy it, my experience is showing that General Motors doesnt want to work with the consumer on this problem.

  • My mistake - 2006 Pontiac G6

My mistake for buying a Pontiac G6. Clunking noise in front, had to replace front and back brakes and rotors. Leaking sun roof. After reading other reviews I think this will be my last Pontiac. And to think they used to be good. Bye bye Pontiac.

  • HOPE FOR GM - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

I just got this car and only had it for one day. Everything seems to be put together well. I always go with GM because my wife works for GMAC MORTGAGE and we can get a car at a great price without haggling. I opted for the regular sunroof because I heard too much negativity about the panaramic roof. Car rides beautifully. I am hoping it holds up with no typical GM dashboard rattles. Only time will tell. I am hoping for the best. So far I am very happy!

  • No complaints, lovely car - 2006 Pontiac G6

Ive had my G6 four months now and I feel I can be objective. The engine is powerful at 240 HP and can really move. It is docile enough to cruise all day though. The leather seats are comfortable and firm. Plenty of leg room but Im 58 and sometimes I hit my head on the ceiling, messing up my spiky hair. The ride is sporty but not bumpy. The fuel economy isnt great but my lead foot might have something to do with that. The sunroof, horsepower and 8 speaker stereo make it a fun car to drive. My girlfriend telling me to slow down, not so much. The body style is a love child between a 300Z and Solara. The grille is Pontiac but thankfully, no ugly body panels!

  • Sunroof Leaks - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

The car has been back to the dealer several times for Sunroof Leaks. They claim the drain hose comes off and the water runs down the drivers side wall and soaks the seat belt retractor. Have had two dealers attempt to fix it several times each. Contacted Pontiac. Still fighting the battle.

  • Great Car/Great Value - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

The G6 is a fun car to drive. The 3.5L V6 is powerful for this midsize car but still gets good gas mileage (avg 24 city 29 hwy). The interior is nice and comfortable. There is plenty of front and rear seat leg room which adds to the comfort of the car. The exterior has a sporty appeal for a 4- door sedan. This is a top of the line automobile with a reasonable price. If you are driving a foreign brand automobile take a look at this quality built American Car.
