This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

  • My G6 - A lot like others... - 2006 Pontiac G6

I do love this car. But Im frustrated to no end with General Motors and their lack of responsibility. There is a major, widespread problem with this cars steering shaft and power steering. Even under warranty, GM doesnt want to replace a part more than once; and, even if they did, it would just brake again because the parts are faulty. And nobody seems to care that steering troubles are major safety issues. I am currently very uncomfortable driving this vehicle. And anyone in my path should be scared, too. GM seems to think its fine with the steering wheel popping every time I turn. And theyre not concerned that most of these cars have a failing power steering system. Beware!

  • Should Be Criminal - 2006 Pontiac G6

A vehicle with this fun factor should be a crime. I drive lots and this car absolutely does it for me! The stereo rocks, engine is nice n peppy, handling is superb, and gas mileage is great! It is rated at 29, I get 35 easily going uphill! This is a tough cookie to beat!

  • Great American Car - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

I bought this car as my first American Car in over 15 years. I traded a 2005 Toyota Camry in for it. The legendary Camry isnt all its stacked up to be. I owned 2 Camrys and Now, I realize it is mostly the Media who hates american cars. I find the Pontiac G6 to be better in almost every way than the 05 Camry. It has more power and about the same fuel economy as the 4 cyl Camry. I find no cars really get the advertised fuel economy they are supposed to. No sqeeks or rattles like the Camry and the Transmission is flawless and knows when to shift, unlike the Camry. The camry is a good car, but the G6 is alot more exciting and performs better. The interior build quality is better.

  • So Far So Great. - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

After driving a 98 malibu for a brief minute....literally, I gave GM one more chance especially for the affordability. The G6 is a great comeback! Once you get past the initial annoying defects (rack n pinion, paper brakes, and front wheel bearing) you have a car that floats at 80mph yet feels sturdy and reliable. I pray it stays this way!

  • Tell me it can last as long as Toyota - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

Bought the car in Aug 05. 3.5l G6. Love the handling and the performance. Traded my 03 GrandAm. The G6 is a huge leap forward compared to the GrandAm. My only complaint is at 5k the car needed new brakes and rotars. Factory defect defect I was told by the dealership. A fair amount of body roll when cornering. With a new job my annual mileage will jump to the neighborhood of 50k. My only question is: Given GMs quality record will my G6 make to 200K.

  • V6 G6 Rocket Re-reviewed - 2006 Pontiac G6

I am entering a new review for the car I have already reviewed several months ago. To this date everything is absolutely great with the car. I finally got the "Panormaic" sun roof fixed from the continual creaking. But, I did the repairs myself in my driveway. Not a good score for GM Service Techs. It went in twice for the same creaking noise and came out as it went in. No, I was not a happy camper. I fixed the problem using cork stripping under the support brackets to the sunroof over the visors. 1 hr 30 minutes later it was fixed and Ive heard no creaking to date. Anyway, just a little FYI to those having this problem.

  • What a Great Car! - 2006 Pontiac G6

I have the 2006 GT fully loaded 4 dr. I started out with the basic V6 Sedan and I had already knew that I wanted the GT, but unfortunately at the time I couldnt afford it. So now I have the GT, and I absoulutely love it! It drives beautifully, I love the shifter option when I need to pass someone. The Crimson Red color, with the panoramic roof really gets people to turn there heads. I get so many looks when its just washed and detailed. If you decided to get this vehicle, get the remote start, what a great feature on this vehicle. I have had many a cold nights, and hot days that this has been a wonderful option that I have.

  • The GTP coupe rocks! - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

This is the second new Pontiac that Ive owned and I think that GM has hit a home run with it. What a great looking car! The G6s styling, quality, and performance are all way above par. Thank goodness GM did away with all of that plastic cladding they had on the GrandAm. If you buy a G6, go with the GTP. Its worth the extra investment since the GTP model with the 3.9 V6 is a mover! The only complaint that I have with the car (and its a minor one at that)is that GM could have done a little better job with the finish on the interior surfaces. Its a shame that GM isnt marketing this model much more aggressively.
