Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • Great non-minivan, non-truck family car - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

I bought this car because I needed something that was roomy enough for a family of 4 but powerful enough to handle my mountain+freeway commute. I love it! Much sportier drive than an SUV or minivan. I like the CVT - very smooth. I get about 18-19 mpg on 87 octane gas and Im a somewhat aggressive driver. Im baffled by people who claim to own the vehicle but complain about the looks of it... so why did you buy it? Personally, I love the looks of it. I also like the fact that Nissan didnt try to cram in a 3rd row. The whole vehicle is much roomier as a result. Mines fully loaded and even then, much less expensive than comparable Lexus, BMW, Volvo, or even VW.

  • Dont Believe Gas Mileage Ratings - 2006 Nissan Murano
    By -

When we purchased the our 2006 Nissan Murano, one of our major considerations was gas mileage. We were impressed with the manufacturers ratings of 19 city and 24 highway. Well, we have driven our Murano for 5000 miles, changed the oil at 3000 and the best mileage we have gotten on a trip (using cruise control whenever possible) was 17. Around town we are only getting 13-14! I took it back to the dealership today and they told me there is nothing wrong with it-that cars can vary, the ratings are just an estimate, and everyone doesnt get that mileage. I dont feel I drive excessively fast and dont do quick starts or stops, so I just dont understand. Dont trust the mileage Nissan claims!

Very Comfortable, Fun and Easy to drive, Handles well and if you build it to the max, like I did, comparable to a higher class of SUV such as the LEXUS or ACURA

  • Morano Falls Short - 2003 Nissan Murano

Squeaks, rattles, loose seat, thumping noises, NO satellite radio (but there is a button), exceptionally POOR gas mileage...all adds up to a "faux crossover" for Nissan. Consumers look elsewhere or be forewarned.

Great alternative to a traditional SUV. Gives you the car like ride with all the features and benefits of a SUV. Nice gas mileage for a 245hp vehicle. I have seen people mistake my Murano for a Porsche Cayenne. Kind of cool to see heads turn around town.

  • Exellent SUV/crossover - 2003 Nissan Murano

Exellent fuel economy(as for SUV) adjustable Xenon headlights ,spacious (to somebody who dont need 7 seats) powerful engine

  • Love it - 2004 Nissan Murano

This was my first brand new car and I love it. Smooth, comfortable ride. Looks great, handles well, big and versatile enough to haul plenty of gear but luxurious enough to look great while doing it. I actually get 22 mpg by doing mostly highway driving, but accelerating slower than I used to - its actually made me a better driver - the mpg declines sharply over 70 mph. This car has everything I was looking for. It handles like a nice car, rides high, smooth, comfortable interior, great extras. I cant say enough.

  • What a blast - 2003 Nissan Murano

I can finally find my car in the lot. This thing has everything the Acura, the Beemer and the Mercedes have for about 8K less.

  • Decent car until things start breaking - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

Weve owned our Murano for 6 years now and have had quite a few problems. The alternator failed at about 20k, one of the speakers has cut out randomly since about 40k, and I have gone through many sets of tires since I bought the car. I now have 100k on this vehicle and it has been in the shop more times then I would have liked. Fuel economy is unimpressive at 17-18 city and low 20s on the highway. I recently had the timing belt and front wheel bearings replaced. Noticed a burning smell inside and Nissan dealer said everythings fine. Probably wont be buying another car from Nissan.

  • SUPER CROSSOVER - 2016 Nissan Murano

Well you are looking for comfort and styling this is it. Passing gear is perfect and quick when getting on the interstate. Very very quite inside. When you roll the windows up you feel you are in your own little world. The interior looks space age. The out side looks futuristic and some people says it looks too busy, But why did the new lexus suv almost copy it in 2017. Not to bad. The brakes are good and the nissan murano is very good at cornering. You will not be disappointed.
