Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • Love my Murano - 2004 Nissan Murano

I bought my Murano new in 2004. I have had zero problems with it after 93,000 miles. All service was done at my local dealership, and their service has been excellent, but perhaps a little pricey. I drive mostly highway and consistently get 22.5 to 23 miles per gallon, which was as advertised. I comfortably fit 4 men and 4 sets of hockey equipment in it. Recently, Nissan extended the warranty on the drivetrain, to 10 years 100,000 miles (transferable). There were two or three recalls which I did not experience personally but were performed on the car.

Just purchased my used 09 Murano with 29k miles on it. Dealer installed leather heated seats and sunroof.I am getting 23 MPG with mostly highway driving. 3.5 L engine is very fast and car gives a smooth ride on highway and over bumps. Black Interior looks really sharp and is nicely laid out, really like the orange lighted gauges.Stereo system provides clear sound and cranks nicely. I love driving this car and it is a head-turner!

Love it. Had a H2 Hummer for 6 years. Time for a change. I love the car-like driving experience of the Murano. Black on Black was my choice. Does not look like a soccer moms car. I dont mind the 18 per miles city gas miles, compared to what I had before. This car will be a keeper for a long time. I bought the 2010 LE front wheel drive. I did not need the AWD. Could not be happier. Better then the lexus, infinity, for 15 grand less.

  • Lots of Zip and GO! - 2005 Nissan Murano

I cant believe that Edmunds.com claims the CVT transmission is "power sapping!" Since it locks up at 12% VS 30% for a normal auto transmission, how can that be "power sapping?" Their testers must not have stuck their foot to the floor and watched this baby perform! Its a great delight to drive. Im a big guy - 6 and 280 lbs and I fit this SUV well. Lots of leg and head room - more than the two Explorers I owned and about 20% better gas mileage, and a whole lot better looking, too. My overall average, as reported by the trip computer, since owning the vehicle is about 20.5mpg. Thats all driving, town (which is most of my driving) and some highway. A great vehicle - wish Id bought early.

Greatest fun to drive since my 65 Mustang. Nothing has gone wrong. It turns heads because of its exterior design.

Having to choose between the 2004 Maxima and the Murano I picked the later because of its styling, comfort and features. Although I ordered a basic model it nevertheless came with all the features I desired. Friends were surprised at the spaciousness and comfort of the back seats. Despite that the ride can be somewhat stiff on bumpy roads, the seat comfort off sets this drawback to a great extent. Like many SUVs the Murano suffers from blind spots that were difficult to get used to after driving an Altima for six years. Highway driving is a dream. It manages well and the gas/milage is great for an SUV. Ive driven New York - Washington, 245 miles, on half a tank, which I consider good

My wife and I just purchased the 2009 Murano and absolutely love it. The ride is smooth, the seating in extremely comfortable, controls are easy to reach and we love the styling. The new double sun roof is really cool

  • Car That Does It All - 2004 Nissan Murano

We have owned this car for 6 months and it has exceeded our expectations. Everytime we get we end up smiling because it is so much fun to drive. We struggled between picking a Toyota 4Runner, Highlander, Honda Pilot or Odessey, Chrysler Pacifica and an Audi A4 Wagon. We wanted comfort and space for the family, performance, all wheel drive and handling and luxury. This car delivers it all at a great price. Even with the steep discounts Chrysler just missed the mark with their granny crossover. Although the Pilot also had a third row seat it lacked the handling and fun of this Nissan product. This is my first Nissan and I will be purchasing more in the future given our experience.

  • Pretty good little SUV for the $$$ - 2005 Nissan Murano
    By -

Bought it right off the boat from Japan sight unseen. Since day 1-Oct. 2005, weve had little to complain about. Sure, the drivers sunshade is faulty, but an inconspicuous bungee cord fixes that safety issue. Rear brakes lasted 50,000, front brakes are still great at 74,000 miles! Front lower control arms and engine mounts have all been replaced under extended warranty. 2 new batteries and 2 new sets of tires in 6 years due to Arizona heat. I drive 65 miles/day min. through farmland and county roads at up to 75mph and have no degredation in ride. Engine and CVT still runs good and smooth. Xenon lights, Sirius and Nav all without issues also.
