Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

0-60 in like 7.5 sec for a SUV that also average like 20 mpg. Whats not to like? Concerns: long term reliability with new CVT tranny and price.

  • Tranmission Design Defect - 2003 Nissan Murano

I just turned over 89750 miles on my Murano. Must to my surprise the transmission has gone bad. Come to find out this is a "typical" problem with this year and the 2004s yet the factory still fails to acknowledge it. The cost to fix, over $5000. Not a small pill to swallow. Nissan owes it to their customers to step up to the plate and rectify the situation. I am joining a class action law suit against Nissan for this defective transmission, specifically pressure sensor unit. This is a SERIOUS potential cause of death due to the way the tranny goes. You could be pulling out into traffic and it will not move for 10-15 seconds. Someone will probably die because Nissan does not want to lose $$

  • 5 Months and still the best! - 2003 Nissan Murano

At this point I am still telling everyone that my Murano has to be the best vehicle out there for your money. Mine is blk with blk leather interior with all the bells and whistles and I love everything about it. Everything functions perfectly and I even enjoy relaxing in the rear seats which recline. Why spend the extra $20 grand for names like infinity or BMW when you get a superior vehicle with everything and anything you could possibly want in a vehicle. I have driven other vehicles(Range Rovers, Hummer H2s) and they have nothing on this. Buy this car you will never regret it!

  • no FX35 but pretty nice anyway - 2003 Nissan Murano

Love this car...traded Audi A6 quattro wagon for it....the interior quality is not close to audi quality but Ill bet it turns out to be more reliable than the audi.....obsessed over FX35 for a long time which exceeds Murano in interior quality as well but it was 4 to 5 grand more....anyway Murano is fast, quiet, smooth, handles beautifully, and looks pretty good. Also has more room than audi which we needed.Wouldnt hesitate to recommend this car to anyone!!

  • Had to have this car and Im glad I do! - 2004 Nissan Murano

I love this car - its not so massive as some of the larger SUVs, but its high enough to be able to have a good view of traffic and has enough inside room to transport lots of different items. The only drawback is the fuel economy. When I purchased the vehicle, I was getting about 19 or so m.p.g., however, ever since my alternator was replaced in the recall (I know, it isnt supposed to have anything to do with m.p.g.), my mileage has gone down to around 17 m.p.g. and my driving habits havent changed. I had my 15,000 mile service completed - no change!

Although Nissan recommends premium fuel, we have always used regular and still get excellent acceleration and as stated on the sticker gas mileage. The computer seems to adjust for the different fuel grade very well. I would have rated interior comfort a 10, but the seats need some fine tuning. Coming from an Altima, the seats feel awkward. The CVT transmission seems flawless. Its so nice not to have annoying shift points!

  • My first Nissan - 2009 Nissan Murano

Previously had BMWs. Still have one. Needed more cargo space but full size SUVs just too large for me so crossovers got my attention. I researched & drove the Lexus, BMW, Acura, Infiniti crossovers then just stumbled across the Murano on the web, read up on them & had 2 test drives. Decided not to throw money away on other vehicles that were not as good as the Murano when it came to features, power, driving pleasure, and comfort. Got the tech, premium, leather, & dual moonroof options. Already had a portable nav system so passed on theirs. After 1,500 miles I am very happy with the car. Makes for a relaxing commute. Getting 20-21 mpg in rush hour/city driving. Nissan got this one right!

  • 2nd Murano - Just got the 2009 Version - 2009 Nissan Murano

I just took ownership of a 2009 Murano- SL AWD. This is my second Murano previous one was a 2006 SL FWD. At first drive, I actually like this Murano better than the 2006. Though I will miss the adjustable pedals. I like the new dash, a little more traditional than the 2006. quality is excellent! The Bose system is better in the 2009 than the 2006. THis is very important to me, Im in the profession.THe 2009 is way less muddy sounding, crisper highs. Driving feels even better, and I loved the 2006. I never had mechanical issues with the first, I hope the second is just as good, if not better. Great job, Nissan.

  • Overall impression - 2005 Nissan Murano

Great vehicle. This thing accelerates like a sports car and has the firm and sure handling to match. This unit has the ability to go and stop fast, walk through deep snow sure footedly and to keep driving interesting and fun for many miles to come. The vehicle seems to be a unique cross between an SUV and a sports car. Nissan brings the best from each category to this platform with decent fuel mileage to boot. The dash is expansive and serves to hold a potentially large quantity of items, I believe that space could be more wisely allocated to the console area that seems too far down and forward to make easily accessible. This is a fine vehicle for a now emerging segment of cross-style SUVs.
