This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

  • Great car, but OHHH the gas mileage - 2003 Nissan Murano

the Murano is a fun car, no doubt, from the extremely comfotable seats, Nav system, Bose audio, and flawless transmission...however, two problems: 1) the paint work is bad. maybe its just mine, but i notice a big problem with small flaking 2) the gas mileage is horrible. the sticker promises 20 /24...i have yet to average over 20 MPG, even on a 150 mile drive on a flat highway with the cruise set at 70. i average less than 15 around town, and 18, if i am lucky, on the highway. This seems to be a reoccuring theme among Murano owners, but I doubt Nissan is willing to admit to it...I know that my dealer isnt!

This is my first SUV purchase and Im glad I went with the Murano.. I test drove other SUV but nothing caught my eyes like the Murano did. Everyone is asking me what kind of SUV it is that it must be very expensive until I tell them how much I paid for it. Its definitely fun to drive and so much ROOM! My newborn baby will have plenty of space in the back =). The remote pull down chair for the back is really great!

This is my 4th Nissan & the Murano is by far my favorite. Very spacious interior, luxury car features, very smooth car-like ride, CVT makes ride even better, awesome exterior design. I definitely would recommend!!

Replaced transmission with 78000 miles, now experiencing problems with second transmission when it snows and only when it snows, the transmission sputters and shuts down, let the car sit for two hours and it is ok very dangerous when driving

Love the Murano, style, performance is great. Mileage is a little less than I expected, although I have gotten 21 mpg at times. Biggest gripe is that is easy to lock yourself out, especially with the key in the ignition, and, even with the engine running.I find I have to leave the window open or not close the door if I want to step out for a moment. I believe the unlock mechanism above the door handle does not open al the way and is easily partially closed when opening the door from inside.

  • No Help From Nissan - 2003 Nissan Murano

This car was a dream until Sept of 05 - since then it has been in and out of every area dealership for the same issue - which every technician and service manager "hears" but no one can fix. Nissan Corp has been absolutely no help - a case number means nothing. Never mind 3 recalls - a gas cap that wont open, a window that rattles, a clock that runs 5 minutes fast - stupid things that just show poor quality - and now they want $650 for an air flow sensor because I didnt have my last oil change done by Nissan? This is my third Nissan and my very last.

Fit and finish are exemplary, as are the engine and transmission. Acceleration is seemless, and its quiet at speed. Braking and steering give confidence. The suspension feels taut yet supple. The interior is laid out nicely. Fuel consumption is below expectations. The Bose stereo system is wonderful. Easy to find a comfortable driving position. The sunroof is quite noisy when open. An awful buffeting sound when rear windows are lowered. Using the digital display control panel seemed daunting at first, but after a few minutes I found it to be easy to use and understand. Overall, the Murano is well thought out and pleasant to drive.

  • Hard to Walkaway after Test Driving it. - 2003 Nissan Murano

All we wanted to do on New Years Eve was see the Murano up close and see what it had to offer. The dealer drove one out from the back lot, Pewter with a loud "orange" interior. It looked like a concept car put into production. We looked at the Saturn Vue the day before, granted different price ranges, but the Murano was tough to walk away from. Drove it home that night!

Ive had the murano for five weeks now and I cant find anything I dislike about the vehicle. It handles like a car not an SUV. I love the headlights and the fact that you can adjust them. Also, I was planning to put another sound system in, but the BOSE system is amazing and with no doubt a keeper.
