Overview & Reviews
Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.
- Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
- No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

Fuel Economy Exactly as Expected - 2003 Nissan Murano
By Barton P - October 29 - 10:00 pmWe are a family of three and selected the Murano because it; has a reliable powertrain, nice styling, no third row seat (we didnt need one), good safety features and good fuel economy for its size and weight. This vehicle has performed well, no serious mechanical issues. There were a couple of recalls for seat belt issues and the addition of fuel tank safety shields. Some complain that MPGs are too low. I think economy is great for the size of the vehicle. We get 20-21 MPG city and about 23-24 highway. This is exactly what the EPA sticker says we should get. At speeds above about 70 MPH weve found fuel economy degrades rapidly.

Must Have - 2003 Nissan Murano
By Macran - October 24 - 10:00 amHave had my Murano for 5 months. Every time I drive it I am thrilled with its design, power, roominess, style, sound system, and comfort. Did have a transmission problem...but Nissan sent a team of engineers (literally) and took care of it...and took care of me! This car is a must have for anyone looking for the availability of AWD, the comfort of a smooth ride, and the style to bring everything together.

Love my Murano, BUT!!! - 2003 Nissan Murano
By Randy Selby - October 22 - 11:23 pmI love my Nissan Murano but we have been having some reliability issues. The car was shooting out smoke when I started it. I took it into my stone age dealer, terrible service, and they said it had a sludge problem. Of course they said it was my fault even though I change my oil all the time. Anyways I went to another dealer and they were great, they covered everything. The reason I took it to them was because the car would start making a funny noise when I let my foot off the gas, it sounded like a lawnmower. They said the transmission was going out. Anyways I love everything else about the SUV.

A copper-colored work of art - 2003 Nissan Murano
By David Acton - October 9 - 9:03 amIt has been an absolute pleasure driving my Nissan Murano for the past 3+ years. From the outside, it looks great and I never tire of admiring it as I cross a parking lot to get in. From the drivers seat, the inside looks great, too, but more importantly is very comfortable in all respects. The dash is well laid out and easy to read, day or night. Lots of storage compartments, in all sizes. And when I turn the key and drive, the best part of owning a Murano occurs. It is fun to drive. Handles well, both in accelerating and stopping. Runs very quietly and drives a straight line effortlessly. I enjoy every minute. Only routine service needed in 3+ years. Best car Ive ever owned.

The - 2003 Nissan Murano
By BobbyJ - September 17 - 10:00 amHave owned for 6 weeks. Use for commuting to work, and have taken it on two trips (more than 800 miles round trip). Great performer, many thoughtful amenities, good gas mileage. Handles and rides like a car, but has the convenience and storage of an SUV (storage compares favorably to Explorer which we also own). Great features for the price, especially compared to crossovers from Lexus, Infiniti, Chrysler, Mercedes and BMW. (We looked at all of these before buying the Murano.) Nissan has always has good reliability, as far as we are concerned. (Owned a Pathfinder for 10 years and had no problems. Nissan reliability has also been highly rated by Consumer Reports.)

03 SL AWD 142,000+ mi - 2003 Nissan Murano
By timinmn - September 6 - 2:34 amI have owned this since new, went in to buy an Altima, drove out in the Murano. It has been a joy to drive. It has been a reliable vehicle for over 142,000 miles. The only major problem Ive had was the transfer case went out at 138,000 ($3000 to fix, still cheaper than a new car). The one flaw I have found is the fuel filler neck rusting and pitting, causing the Check Engine light to come on, I have sanded it down applied LPS3 rust preventor on it well see if that lasts.
