This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

My 2003 Murano SL is my forth Nissan/Datsun vehicle 24 years. It is by far my favorite. Granted it has the most creature comforts, but my satisfaction goes well beyond. After 3 years, no big surprises, and my dealership has taken good care of me.

  • Murano Test Drive - 2003 Nissan Murano

I test drove a fully loaded Murano and OH BOY!! it was fun to drive...But the build quality of the interior material is not good. and the grill in the front may rattle as the vehicle gets old. Other than that this is a fun "SUV" to drive

We own this Murano SE for a few months now and we just love it. The build quality is superb, the luxury appointments all one could ask for. The engine is powerful and responsive, the unique seamless transmission smooth as could be. Its a joy to drive. Even though this is my wifes car (so to speak) and my car is a BMW Z3, I thoroughly enjoy driving this wonderful car. I cant really judge the "reliability" because we havent owned it long enough, but based on the quality weve observed so far, we expect the best.

  • Love my MO - 2003 Nissan Murano

I luv my Murano! Wife loves it, kids love it, neighbors love it, dogs love it etc... It is so smooth and quiet, the first couple of times I came up to a stop light/sign, I thought the engine had died (it hadnt). Ive had a couple of things that needed fixing (sunroof and the rear cup holder), but other than that, it has been great. Mileage is around 21mpg city/highway. CVT is a different from regular transmissions, but you get used to it. It is pretty cool going 70mph and see the rpms below 2000. I like the 6 CD changer. I got a blue SL AWD with cafe latte cloth interior.

Only time will tell on this great car, however, all in all it has met our expectations! The gas mileage and emissions are not the greatest, but it is still the best SUV for the price out there. We drove A LOT of SUVs in this price range and were sold on Nissans reliability and service record. We know that this car is still in its initial life stage but wed purchase it again. It came down to the Mitsubishi Endeavor and the Murano and the Nissan dealer made all the difference.

The auto locking mechanism has locked me out of the car 4 times with the engine running!!!!!! Sometimes when you leave the vehicle it locks immediately, sometimes in a little while and sometimes a long while or not at all with the keys out of the ignition. Taken to dealer and problem still exists. CVT is noticable in stop and go traffic, searches for proper location in slow moving traffic. Can the pre muffler below the front seats be repiped to fit in the tunnel for the rear shaft. This hangs to far down and is very visible and ugly when approaching the vehicle. The steering wheel mounted cruise controls SHOULD be illuminated for ease and safety.

  • A Hot Wheels Car for Adults - 2003 Nissan Murano

Have spent the last month looking at a wide range of vehicles; I test drove the Highlander, RX300, BMW X5, Acura MDX, Honda Pilot and Volvo XC90. This car was really amzingly well put together and the size was really what I was looking for as opposed to the larger vehicles that I had driven. The handling is better than the Lexus and close to the Bimmer in my mind. Havent been in snow but anticipate a good safe ride. Interior is well appointed and seats are very comfortable. DVD navigation system is a hoot and prob more helpful than I initially anticipated. Rear seats are fine. 3 adults would be a bit tight.

I bought my Murano roughly 2 months ago. So far Ive been very happy with my purchase. Performance for an SUV is outstanding. Ride quility is top notch. Over all design of the vehicle is great, they put a lot of thought into this SUV.
