This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

  • best car purchase ever!!! - 2003 Nissan Murano

This car is great! It is ultra quiet. The car has a very smooth ride. I was planning on buying a bmw x5. After I test drove this car. I went back to test drive it again. I decided to buy it. I have no regrets about it. The car has been great on gas mileage. The seats are very comfortable. This car has so many options available. My only problem is dealing with the dealer. I feel that the sales people were not throughly trained on every aspect of this vehicle. I would definitly recommend this vehicle 100 times over!

I guess I got a lemon...Many problems, battery died 2x(covered), back windows rolled down by themselves (2x,luckily nothing stolen), gas door wouldnt open (in costco line), now door locks are "worn"-all three gave out when I took it in for a "free" oil change- coincidence? Nissan will not cover this, because warranty is over. I highly discourage others from purchasing a Nissan.

I purchased my Murano after reading numerous Edmunds reviews. In January of 06 everything I read was positive, yet now I sit with a $5000 estimate to rebuild my transmission on an 03 vehicle that has just tripped 87,000 miles. This is my 2nd Nissan & my 2nd issue with replacing a transmission (the 1st a 92 Maxima with over 150,000 miles). I too have had the issue of putting my foot on the gas and getting no power after a stop in traffic. Its scary, dangerous & frustrating to think I know have to replace a transmission so soon.

Since the purchase the experience has been wonderful. Ive taken it for along ride and my children loved the comfort. Great on gas for a SUV. The vehicle was loaded with everything including a Bose Radio System. And LOVE it!

This is the best vehicle Ive ever owned. I had a Maxima, Rodeo, 626, RX7, B2200, 68 T-Bird. The performance and handling are great, but the comfort is outstanding. I love driving it. The only concern Ive ever had was when making a tight turn at slow speeds the steering wheel seemed to tighten up.

  • CVT - 2003 Nissan Murano

My husband and I purchased the 03 Murano with 80,000 miles on it. It was totally clean and very comfortable for my 65", 300 lb husband to sit in and to drive. Just 2 days after we purchased it, we realized why it had been traded in. The CVT was not engaging when in stop and go traffic in the heat. Thank goodness we had purchased the warrantee! We took the car to the local Nissan dealer, they tested it and said we needed a new transmission. So, for the $100 deductable, we were provided with a new transmission and a rental car while it was being installed. I am grateful to this web site. I had read the reviews and as soon as the car acted up, I knew what the problem was. Thanks!

  • Poor choice - 2003 Nissan Murano

We bought our 2003 Murano AWD because it lookes great and we had liked our Maxima. What a mistake - luckily we negotiated a free extended warranty into our deal besause: the motor mounts failed at 35K, the mount control sensor failed as well,TWO different oxygen sensors failed at different times leaving my wife and children stranded, the front strut bearings failed at 60k, the rear lift latch failed at 61K, wiring leading to the mass air flow sensor failed, causing the sensor to also fail - leaving us stranded AGAIN,even the sunshades needed to be replaced as the spring tensioner failed. The total cost of these repairs would have been over $5500 if I had to pay for them!I wont buy another!

I picked my Sheer Silver/Charcoal Murano up on 3/21 & its been a blast everyday! I get daily complements & my wife even wants to drive it over her 2001 Surrano Red Spyder. I am not the type of person that gives out 10s very often, but I havent felt this good since I bought my new Cutlass after high school. Note: I still have that 79 for sunny Sundays. I love cars & this one has all the bases covered. I chose this over an MDX & saved $10k in the process. My friends cant believe the 19 city mpg Im getting & the engine isnt even broken in yet

  • Another bad transmission in Murano - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

I purchased my 2003 Murano AWD used with 24k miles on it. Like other reviewers, my transmission just failed at 88,319 miles, and it is costing me $6000 to have a reconditioned transmission put in. Nissan customer service said that they were not going to help me with the repair. I am very disappointed with Nissans quality and customer service, and I will not buy another. Also, the CD player stopped functioning at around 75k, and it cost over $450 to fix. The radio shop told me that they saw many Muranos with that problem.
