Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • A Nice SUV - 2005 Nissan Murano

Just bought it and drove it home from the dealership. It has 56k on it. I really like how high you sit. I drove an Outlander (Mitsubishi, 4 cylinder, AWD) for years. What a difference the 6 cylinder makes, WOW! Love it! Trip computer shows an average of 19.8 mpg. Wondering what I will get on the hwy. I was only getting 22 with my previous car, so I am hopeful that this will get close to the same. I do a lot of hwy travel, so I may get a little better gas mileage!

  • Glad to have it! - 2012 Nissan Murano

My wife and I have not been able to afford a Murano until now, and are glad to have it. You truly cant beat the comfort or power in this thing. We had a 2010 Altima with all the specs, and that doesnt even compare to the Murano. We averaged about 23MPG from Florida to Illinois and back with a fully loaded and weighed down vehicle (plenty of space). Handled excellent in Chicago and Atlanta traffic with plenty of power when I needed it. No issues at all. If I baby it, it will get close to 28MPG, or 19MPG if I have too much fun. Was hoping it got closer to 28MPG with normal highway driving (70-80MPH), but 23MPG is still great. LOVE IT!!

Its got a lot more style than other car-based SUVs and is a lot of fun to drive, all things considered. Interior leaves a lot to be desired, though -- enormous dash, cheap leather seats, cheap door handles all detract from the look. Some cloth interiors have a rat fur look to them. Popular packages boost the cost of this car in a big hurry. I like the CVT. Not a good value but youre not going to buy this vehicle for the value. Its sporty and attractive (from the outside).

  • No Compromises - 2009 Nissan Murano

I traded in my 2003 Murano. I absolutely love the 2009 Murano. I looked at the Toyota Highlander and the Lexus 350LX. The Murano blew the doors off of the Lexus. All the standard features on the Murano LE were optional features on the Lexus and Toyota. The fit and finish is much better on the Murano than any other SUV on the market. Nissan really got it right. The little details are what make me so happy. Like the back up camera, the keyless ignition, the heated seats, the laptop ports, the automatic liftgate, the 20" wheels, the large console display, and of course the stereo system. The styling is really fresh too.

  • Drive train failures. CVT and Xfer case issues. Dont buy Nissan! No Manufacturer Support! - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

Its too bad Nissan wont stand behind THIER product. They did replace the CVT (now that they extended the factory warranty to 10yr/120K) but our transfer case was leaking too (as so many of them have) and we were told it couldnt be rebuilt since it was one that had been made with a bad part! What floored me was we got NO help from Nissan at all with the cost of the replacement part. I even contacted the executive offices in TN. $3K later, I still have a metallic rattle when the CVT is trying to kick out of the first "gear" and after reading about how many others had the same issue, I am VERY worried I will have to replace both drive train components again if we hang on to the car.

  • Think hard before buying - 2003 Nissan Murano

This car went through make-ready and was delivered by the sales person with a defective computer-control-module for the interior lighting. It took the service deopartmet 2 hours to find what was wrong. The plasma display simply cannot be read in bright sunlight

  • Better Than I Imagined - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

Bought my loaded Murano about two weeks ago. Its a dream in many ways: ride, stereo, seating comfort, controls. My first choice was the Lexus 330, but for the price, the Murano is a much better deal. Got mine for MSRP out the door. Buy one of these if you want a reasonably priced sporty SUV with the comfort of a sedan and the utility of an SUV.
