Overview & Reviews
Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.
- Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
- No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

handles great, little annoyances - 2003 Nissan Murano
By heisman - August 14 - 10:00 amDrives wonderfully but there are a few annoyances: a rattle in the backseat somewhere that the dealership is having a hard time pinpointing--have had to take it 4 times and its still not fixed; headlights look like they stairstep up to the right, as if they were stalled unevenly, but the dealership says they are all like that?; also, brakes squeal when putting the car into reverse, and again, the dealership claimed to have fixed the problem by cleaning off "the glaze" but the problem has not gone away.

Awesome - 2003 Nissan Murano
By zkkkk - August 14 - 10:00 amNot only does this machine perform,it is a looker. I cant drive 2 blocks w/out being stopped and talked to about my Murano. It is comfortable, smooth, fast, and responsive. Great gas mileage as well. Did I say roomy. Plenty of room front and back. The back seats recline giving more comfort and,as my girlfriend and I found out, plenty of room for plenty of positions. FUN!

Disappointing - 2003 Nissan Murano
By Terrible Gas Mileage - August 8 - 2:00 amI traded in my 03 Murano for an 04 Maxima SL! What a difference. The design of the Murano was what sold me on the vehicle; the lousy gas mileage and horror stories re:front end problems made me trade for a Maxima after one cross-country trip. Two dealers confirmed that there were numerous complaints about the Muranos gas mileage; I think the "new" transmission was a key factor. The best mileage I ever got with the Murano was 17; with the Maxima, I never get less than 22 and up to 32mpg.

Nice Car, BUT........................... - 2003 Nissan Murano
By Sonya - August 6 - 2:03 amI purchased this car used with only 18,500 miles on it and got a great price and the first year was fantastic.Great gas mileage 20/25, fun 2 drive, roomy then at the anniversary of my purchase coming back from a trip to NC with 45,500 miles on the car the transmission went out.Who would think a car would have transmission issues at 45,000? I would never think of such a thing but it did. Yes it was still under warranty BUT can I trust it to go on trips again? NO! I am a previous owner of a 95 nissan pathfinder that never had an issue and I drove it for 215,000 miles.Thought nissan was a reliable vehicle told all my friends to buy a nissan now I am not sure anymore..Very Disappointed in NISSAN

Cant drive very well over 65 mph - 2003 Nissan Murano
By tauris2000 - July 16 - 11:26 pmI am having trouble driving my 2003 Nissan Murano over 65 mph on the highway. It revs really high and then engine sounds like it is going to explode. It seems like it is already in the highest gear possible and it of course wont shift any higher. I am afraid to take it out of town on longer highway trips because of this. I have an extended warranty but dont know what the problem is or if it would be covered. I have taken it to one Nissan Dealer and one Carmax dealer and neither have been able to diagnose a problem. They also arent allowed to take it out on the highway which seems absurd. Any input would be much appreciated.

nice car - 2003 Nissan Murano
By indywoods - July 14 - 10:00 ami like this car. its fun to drive, very responsive, and has tons of room. negatives: I do not like the blind spot and I do wish the gas mileage was better. Its really a ingenious design and gets lots of looks. The stability is a big improvement over the Pathfinder.

8 months of fun and no problems yet - 2003 Nissan Murano
By mjmarcinkus - June 20 - 2:00 amIve had this vehicle for 8 months now (~7200 miles) and have experienced no problems. Fun to drive, the back seats are very roomy and the passengers love the recline option. Sound system is top notch (Bose), although the reception could be better (94 Taurus got better reception in the same areas) - probably a result of the stubby antenna. Nice acceleration, smooth ride. With half city/half highway, I have been averaging 18.6 mpg. I have the FWD (not AWD) and didnt notice any major difficulties navigating through the snowy Chicago streets the past winter. I hope this review helps anyone thinking of buying a Murano.
