This Year's Model Updates:

For 2005, the Murano receives a rollover sensor for the side curtain airbags, and a new S model with fewer features and a lower price. New options packages and an Intelligent Key entry and ignition system are newly available.

Pros:
  • Sharp handling, strong standard engine, comfortable and practical interior.
Cons:
  • Continuously variable transmission detracts from performance, SE model rides harshly, no third-row seat.

  • Great to Drive - 2005 Nissan Murano

Great and fun to drive. Location of cup holders are my only complaint. Cup holders in front and rear are not within easy reach. Otherwise the SUV is perfect. Great handling. I feel safe in the vehicle. Would buy another. 19.5 is not bad gas mileage but would love a highbred with higher mileage if it performed as well.

Overall, the Murano has its good qualities, but has MORE bad qualities. The CVT transmission, is a plus. I have the SL model so I have a few bells and whistles which work. The AC knobs are kind of funky for the SL line. Nissan should do something with that, if they are competing with the Lexus RX models (I get a lot of looks, because they think it is a lex). Had a few recalls AND a few problems with warranty items (engine/sensor light went off 5 five times AND a faulty fuel part inside tank). Service department finally diagnosed and fixed the problem. Called NMAC, to complain. Gas, Gas, Gas... Maybe 13 or 14 in the city...suppose to be 20. Highway, rode to vegas. Average 22.

Ive always liked the exterior styling of the Murano, with the two chromed tailpipes protruding from under the swept-up rear cabin area.(Impractical) black paint color makes it look even more "Darth Vader"-ish. Being a knowledgeable car nut, I was pleasantly surprised by the quick acceleration(0-6 in 8.0 sec) of the V6, given the 2-ton weight, but I think this is due to the ingenious CVT transmission(a modern version of the old Buick DynaFlow) which also helps maximize fuel economy(25mpg on the highway). The SEs suspension is a bit harsh, and there is some noticeable road noise intrusion into the cabin. Controls are well positioned and easily learned, and FINALLY---the perfect sunvisor.

Smooth riding and great pick-up. Love the style and how it doesnt blend in. The standard and optional features are great. There really isnt much one could ask for that isnt already available.

Just bought my S type. Love the ride! Very comfortable suv. More interior room than my old Explorer. Dont know much about economy or reliability yet but expecting the best. Things I wish my S type had - fog lights, automatic headlights, and a 6 disc changer. Couldnt see paying $5,000 more for the other models that include these features.

  • Murano Affair - 2005 Nissan Murano

I have owned my 2004 SE AWD Murano since June of 04. I have had zero defects or complaints. The tires are entry level and I will upgrade to a set of 255/55z X 18 when the stock tires get thin. I have 13800 miles on the vehicle and only oil changes for expences. I put a bug deflector on the vehicle because they attract stones to the windshield as well as bugs. When you look at the vehicle from the side you can see the muffler hanging down. It is not just my Murano, they all hang down. The dealer said that is the way they come. I would suggest the Nissan Co. get a new exaust system designer for this car. An exaust system should not be seen or heard, unless its on a Harley Davidson. J

Bought new have 47,500 miles on it already. Only real complaint is the gas mileage in town is a mere 17 on the highway it gets 22 . Be aware though in the beginning the car gets only 18 miles overall untill the engine is broken in somwhere around 15,000 miles. The comfort and ride and handling are excellent for a suv and is almost car like. Will buy the upgraded version next time cause heated seats and the additional toys are fun. I have had no traction problems with the 2wd version and it is more economical on gas and maintance than AWD.

My father owns this car and he has spent less than a thousand repairing it when it comes to labor plus parts. Thats because my father is a mechanic so hes smarter than the average driver. He knows he should do things like warm up the car everytime you expect to drive it and especially in the winter. He also knows that he should slow down when he sees a pothole so he goes over it slowly or avoids it completely so he doesnt damage his car. He also knows that he should be nice to the people that work at auto shops so that way he can get a discount on parts. The only reason not to get this car is if you prefer a car with more tech features and a car that doesnt consume a lot of gas.

  • Nissans Murano Rocks! - 2005 Nissan Murano

I can honestly say my Murano is the best vehicle Ive ever owned/driven. For the first year or so that I had my Murano it was almost a daily event to have someone approach me and comment on the color (Sunlit Copper) and design. I even had a couple of folks follow me to get a better look! I opted for all the bells and whistles and havent been disappointed. It starts on the first try and runs like a top. You wont reget buying one, I guarantee it!
