Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • No Help From Nissan - 2003 Nissan Murano

This car was a dream until Sept of 05 - since then it has been in and out of every area dealership for the same issue - which every technician and service manager "hears" but no one can fix. Nissan Corp has been absolutely no help - a case number means nothing. Never mind 3 recalls - a gas cap that wont open, a window that rattles, a clock that runs 5 minutes fast - stupid things that just show poor quality - and now they want $650 for an air flow sensor because I didnt have my last oil change done by Nissan? This is my third Nissan and my very last.

I absolutely love my Murano. Im kind of bummed at the moment though, because apparently my timing chain needs to be replaced, and the shop I got it priced at is wanting to charge me a whopping $2,100... (And of course this happened a convenient 900 miles AFTER the warranty expired). Great car, but horrible fixing costs.. And of course every Nissan dealership Ive ever been to has the most money-hungry people Ive ever met.

This vehicle is WONDERFUL. The new transmission with no shifting makes it "fly" down the road. I traded my Nisson Quest (which I loved dearly) for better fuel economy. The interrior is not much smaller. The drivers seat sits high giving you plenty of view to see a couple cars ahead of you.

I love this little muscle car..or should i say SUV. The design inside and out is modern without being over the top. And the engine is powerful, yet smooth. It has more headroom and legroom for its size than you would ever expect. I usually keep a car for a year, but this one is 2 and i have no desire to trade...its fantastic and i will have it until i need another MURANO...its my little luxury=mobile!!!!

I was not sure that I was going to actually make the purchase of my Murano. Yet while taking it for a test drive and to show it to my wife I was rear ended. Only a few scratches were on the bumper and one quarter sized dent on the tailgate. However the other driver was in a Isuzu Rodeo and had major damage done to the vehicle to the extent that it could not be driven. I still to the Murano and showed it to my wife with damage and all and explained what had happened. (My wife also drives a Isuzu Rodeo) Needless to say on returning to the dealership I picked out another Murano the just had come in that morning an immediately made the purchase thinking safety first.

Fit and finish are exemplary, as are the engine and transmission. Acceleration is seemless, and its quiet at speed. Braking and steering give confidence. The suspension feels taut yet supple. The interior is laid out nicely. Fuel consumption is below expectations. The Bose stereo system is wonderful. Easy to find a comfortable driving position. The sunroof is quite noisy when open. An awful buffeting sound when rear windows are lowered. Using the digital display control panel seemed daunting at first, but after a few minutes I found it to be easy to use and understand. Overall, the Murano is well thought out and pleasant to drive.

  • Hard to Walkaway after Test Driving it. - 2003 Nissan Murano

All we wanted to do on New Years Eve was see the Murano up close and see what it had to offer. The dealer drove one out from the back lot, Pewter with a loud "orange" interior. It looked like a concept car put into production. We looked at the Saturn Vue the day before, granted different price ranges, but the Murano was tough to walk away from. Drove it home that night!

  • Beware - My Murano Has Not Aged Well - 2007 Nissan Murano

This car was great for the first 5 years. At 73,000 miles some very expensive and un warranted repairs became necessary. The drivers seat frame cracked, this necessitated replacement that cost $1300. The high pressure power steering line also went, this was a $600 repair. The transfer case associated with the CVT transmission is seeping and requires a rebuild that will cost over $2500. My Niissan service manager told me that Nissan is fully aware of each of these issues and as has published service bulletins because of the high failure rate. Unfortunately Nissan would not reimburse me for these repairs. The extended warranty on the CVC does not cover the transfer case.

Ive had the murano for five weeks now and I cant find anything I dislike about the vehicle. It handles like a car not an SUV. I love the headlights and the fact that you can adjust them. Also, I was planning to put another sound system in, but the BOSE system is amazing and with no doubt a keeper.
