Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • Goodbye Murano - 2003 Nissan Murano

I absolutely loved the look and performance of this car. It did not get as good gas mileage as it was rated. Rated 20/24. I got 18/20 only occasionally 22. I need better mileage than that and just sold the Murano 2 weeks ago for a hybrid Toyota Prius. Back to the Nissan...the alternator went out last month but was replaced without incident under the warranty. I had the Cafe Latte interior and it was too light for me. I do a lot of paperwork in the drivers seat and got ink marks all over. The paint FALLS off of this car inside and out. It takes very little (bugs) to scratch especially on the bumper, connector between the hatch and back bumper, and the dash, steering wheel middle.

After 3500 miles the Murano is still fun to drive. Great for long trips up 101. Environmental controls are the best, sound system is good and ride is very quiet. Still draws stares from strangers and 9 out of 10 think it looks great.

  • Defecitve Throttle - 2010 Nissan Murano
    By -

The Murano had less than 5 miles when purchased. 6 months later, A/C went out. Diagnosis:Defective Hose. 8 months later, throttle accelerates on its own, which prevented me from braking. Luckily, I was able to kill the engine. Diagnosis:Defective Throttle. Car was towed to Baker Nissan. They suggested I call the dealership I purchased vehicle from. Said "If they care, they will buy it back". Called Sterling McCall, they said there was nothing they could do & directed me to Nissan Corp. Even after the Toyota issues, they said it has been fixed & denied the request for a buy back. Instead, they offered me a service program to make me feel better.

  • The Murano Adventure - 2005 Nissan Murano

The vehicle handles well and is very comfortable on long trips. I personally like the shape, which I thought was unique and interesting. It would have been nice if it had third row seating and rear ac & heating controls. Also, they should make satellite radio a standard option.

  • Great Car - 2004 Nissan Murano

Love the styling, comfort, power. The room is sufficient for daily Dad Duties, including coaching. Mileage is not up to rating, but not by much. Leg room is critical, and ample.

Very good and comfortable crossover. Very good quality in finishes. Could improve in rear suspension.

I absolutely love this car. It goes well in the snow, the engine is smooth and powerful accross the powerband. The stereo is great, but all factory systems could be improved upon and no matter where I go someone always asks me about this car.

  • Edmunds is wrong about the CVT - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

Excellent total package, and the good thing is it doesnt look like all the other two-box SUVs. I dont know why Edmunds says the CVT saps power. This veh is very peppy; Car & Driver described the CVT as making the V-6 perform like a V-8 and I agree. Flawless fit & finish, everything works, handles well. In recent snows, AWD is seamless,ie, its there doing its intended thing without bringing attention to itself. No complaints at all.

  • Would not own another Nissan - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

I bought a 2009 LE on 4-1-09 and sold it on 5-15-08 I had a jerking/vibration at speed of 40 - 60 and they were giving me the run around that it was the gas. They wanted me to run 4 tanks for 93 octane this would fix the problem. Well it made NO difference. If you are thinking about buying one of these I would make sure that you do a hell of a good test drive, overnight drive at different speeds and on different roads. Selling it was the best thing for me to do to deal with it!
