Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • Wonderful vehicle for the price... - 2005 Nissan Murano

I have been very impressed with the vehicle as a whole. As with any vehicle, there are minor things Id like to change (such as the inability to use the NAV system while driving) but overall, I love the car and highly recommend the SE version for the shifter. Not as much fun to drive as my Maxima, but no slouch for its size. (And it averages at 20MPG in the city, even at high altitude!)

This vehicle really lives up to the advertising...great fun to drive, works in different modes to suit our changing daily needs. We have taken a couple of long road trips and have been delighted with the ease of handling and "usability" of the Murano. The exterior design is eyecatching and cool. We love it!

Great vehicle. Very comfortable as I drive about 1000 miles a week. Better value than other major competitors. Hung with Porsche Cayenne (base model) running 115 mph in mountains of North Carolina, with ease. After 45,000 miles not the first problem with it.

  • Over Rated Murano - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

This will we the last Nissan product I ever buy. The Murano is the most over rated car I have ever owned. For the price I payed, I am disgusted with the quality of the car. I care for it well and its still falling apart! I should have bought a Chevy Tahoe! 1. Failed CVT $6200. 2. Failed door solenoids $450. 3. Leakey sunroof. 4. Bose CD player failed. 5. Power seats have back lash in gear drive. 6. Cup holder arms broke with little pressure. 7. Failed CATYLITIC converter & O2 sensors $1050. 8. Valve cover PCV system clogged $450. 9. Oil leaks & coolant leaks. All of this and I change the oil every 3000 miles. I am a mechanical engineer and check every thing weekly.

  • Six months in, all good - 2010 Nissan Murano

Im not usually one to write reviews, but Edmunds was very helpful as I purchased the Murano so I felt obliged to return the favor. I’ve purchased maybe half a dozen cars in my life and my Murano is by far my favorite. It’s very fun to drive, especially coming from a trucky SUV. The interior is very well thought out, with everything seemingly where you’d expect it to be. And I’ve yet to walk up to it and not like how the exterior looks. It’s really nice to have no regrets about such a significant purchase. I’d definitely recommend Nissan and the Murano.

  • I love my Murano! - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

I researched for over 6 months and kept coming back to the Murano. Its classy, yet very fun to drive. I cant believe how quiet and comfortable she is. I have lower-back pain - the power lumbar support is incredible. Ive had her for a week and Ive already received many compliments. The dual- panel moonroof is my favorite feature. It just feels so open and bright. I also love the back-up camera - its a must in this vehicle as the rear view isnt all that great. Ive been averaging 24 miles/gallon on the highway, and have been pretty impressed with MPG so far. I got it in Merlot with Beige interior and I love it!

  • Nissan got this one right - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

I have had my 2009 Murano LE for a few weeks now. Overall I am very happy with my decision. I have driven a Honda Pilot for four years and I wanted something sportier and less boxy. I drove the RX350, Tribeca, and CX9. All good vehicles but something about the Murano grabbed me. It is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned, better than my wifes Lexus ES350. Handling is better than the Pilot and it is very quiet. I have tried to feel the vibration that many people talk about but cannot. I have a couple of nuisance warranty items but nothing major. Performance is great and gas mileage is about 22 mixed driving. I have never owned a Nissan but I am really enjoying this vehicle.

  • Oil leaks, cvt, electrical issues. - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

Have had same issues as other reviews.Hesitation at stop to start has gone away with last recall to replace air tube and clamps. fuel door lock replaced twice, after 2nd time I just broke the lock shaft off and left it at that. I now have oil leaking from oil cooler seal, oil sump pan gasket, and main oil pan gasket. Entire engine has to be removed from bottom of vehicle to repair these items. Parts cost approx. $70.00, labor is $1350.00. Will be replacing wheel seals while the engine is out also since axles have to come out anyway, $40.00 for parts only. Luckily no cvt issues, knock on wood.
