Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

Test drove this SUV twice to make sure it handled and performed as well as I thought the first time. Handling is great and stable. The engine has excellent performance and runs very smooth. I just think it might be priced a little high considering nissan does not have high residual values like Acura or Lexus but it is priced around 38,000 for a loaded SE.

We had to wait to get a white SL with the packages we wanted (sunroof) and waited for the right price as well, Premium and Sport. I didnt think I could afford such a luxury SUV! I LOVE THE WAY THE MURANO DRIVES! I feel like Im driving a Lexus. For the price, this SUV is wonderful, roomy, comfortable, stereo is great, love the 6CD Changer, Sirius XM and I can use my MP3 Players! The back up camera is a must and I read some reviews about the driver seat not being low enough and it bothered me for a day or so, but I was able to get the back part of electric seat to go up so I can see over the hood and the front part of the seat felt lower, so Im used to it now. What a sweet ride!

Love the vehicle, flashy, quiet, rides great. Nice features, good layout. Overall, the best car I have owned. Road noise is almost non existent, stereo is awesome (Bose), back lighting in the dash is JUST OK. Really handy is the automatic control setups for two drivers, press 1 and its the wifes configuration, and 2 for mine. All sets automatically, excluding steering wheel. Love that feature. Seperate air controls for both drivers, very nice! Added 3rd party device to get MP3 player to work with stereo, but its great to press Sat and use whatever I want to plug in to it (includes XM radio) without using FM. Very happy with vehicle. Gas mileage and having to use SUPER unleaded stinks.

  • Near Perfect - 2003 Nissan Murano

The Murano is a near perfect car for us. With a wife and two children, we want great performance and handling, interior space and comfort, and looks that will last. The seats and the ride make us feel rich, and the engine rocks. When you need to pass, you just PASS. As for amenities, the reclining rear seats are slick and the stereo system is better than anything well ever have in our living room. Finally, the looks. The line and the proportions wont be improved upon in any crossover SUV for a long time to come. In short, the Murano makes perfect sense for parents who want to feel like theyre not just hauling kids but DRIVING.

  • Murano the BEST - 2003 Nissan Murano

This car is more enjoyable every day. It gets great gas mileage for this size vehicle 21mpg city/hwy and yet has outstanding performance.

  • Best Pick! - 2003 Nissan Murano

I was hooked at first sight, and fell in love at first drive. Extremely comfortable, roomy for 5, and can even lug along 6 if your rear seat passengers dont mind being a little squeezed. Lots of great ways of maximizing storage space, with the expanding side storage compartments on the front doors, the ample trunk with space underneath as well. Beautiful design, and a great ride!

  • Murano is the best crossover SUV - 2003 Nissan Murano

I need good gas mileage, reliability, functionality, and the ability to tow about 2000 lbs worth of trailer. The contenders were the Toyota Highlander (out because you can only get a light colored leather interior) the Toyota 4 Runner (incredible vehicle but out because of poor gas mileage) Honda Pilot (out because of lack of decent options (no heated seats, no sunroof, cheap looking leather interior). I also drove all the GM products and couldnt get over the poor reliability issues for about the same out the door price. The Murano wins based on my criteria and is really fun to drive. Much more like a sports sedan than an SUV.

  • my new venture with used car. - 2003 Nissan Murano

great car. ive wanted one since it first came out. i have no problem with it except mabye not knowing exactly how to use some of the GPS and silly things like the windshield wipers and, for me, difficult light switch. but that isnt you its me. Actually the manual and some of the cars working items are not user friendly. Ive had Hondas all my life and they seem to be easier to comprehend and use. There are a lot of things on this car that yet, im not familiar with as of yet. Mabye its my 72years or something but i have some and i say some difficulty with it as of yet. Ive had it about a month so as i said it me...God Bless you and i wouldnt trade this one for two other cars.

  • Top of the Class Crossover - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

Spent several months reseraching every other CUV/SUV on the market and the 2009 Murano continually popped up near the top of every criteria list. I quickly uncovered that this vehicle should not be compared to the Mazda CX- 7, Ford Edge, Toyota Highlander, etc., but rather the Lexus RX, Acura RDX/MDX, BMW X3/X5, etc. For the money, the performance, amenities, and overall driving experience that Nissan offers in the Murano cannot be beat in its class. I went with the LE because it offers everything, I would highly recommend the navigation option (no regrets). After a month of ownership and 2000 miles, I am still impressed by the ride quality and everything that this vehicle offers.
