This Year's Model Updates:

For 2005, the Murano receives a rollover sensor for the side curtain airbags, and a new S model with fewer features and a lower price. New options packages and an Intelligent Key entry and ignition system are newly available.

Pros:
  • Sharp handling, strong standard engine, comfortable and practical interior.
Cons:
  • Continuously variable transmission detracts from performance, SE model rides harshly, no third-row seat.

Great vehicle. This thing accelerates like a sports car and has the firm and sure handling to match. This unit has the ability to go and stop fast, walk through deep snow sure footedly and to keep driving interesting and fun for many miles to come. The vehicle seems to be a unique cross between an SUV and a sports car. Nissan brings the best from each category to this platform with decent fuel mileage to boot. The dash is expansive and serves to hold a potentially large quantity of items, I believe that space could be more wisely allocated to the console area that seems too far down and forward to make easily accessible. This is a fine vehicle for a now emerging segment of cross-style SUVs.

This is a great ride. The transmission took some getting used too, but now I just love it. The only cons I have is that I would like more trunk room and add some sound proffing. I have the nav. system in mine and would not buy another auto without it.

  • Best midsize SUV - 2005 Nissan Murano

Fun vehicle to drive and a real head turner. Average highway gas mileage is 25 to 26, town is 21. As usual with Nissan, pick it up in the showroom, return it in 36 months,....no repairs in between!!

i bought this brand new this month. I am still waiting for the car to break in- it has not yet reached the 20/25 gas mileage on the sticker. It is currently getting 17.7 mpg. Aside from that , I love this vehicle.

  • THE Urban SUV - 2005 Nissan Murano

Living in Houston, this SUV can handle traffic with ease and can park anywhere a smaller car can (and thats a BIG deal here!). I am very impressed with all of the bang for the buck. The CVT is a change for those of us who are used to hearing and feeling our vehicles shift. But it only takes a very short time to get used to. In fact, if you used noise (engine or wind) to gauge speed, WATCH OUT! It will be at 80 mph in seconds if you dont watch. It appears that the very few things that I would change in the 2005 have been addressed in the 2006 model. I think I have found a vehicle I could really be loyal to.

When I decided to buy a new car,I told my wife I was going to buy a sedan this time.I have owned SUVs since they came out with them,we needed a larger car to haul the kids and the dog everywhere. So now the kids are gone and its her and I. We dont need a bigger car. WRONG she says to me,you still haul our stuff for work, buy an SUV. So I started looking at them. The Nissan Murano caught my eye, I test drove it and liked the way it rode,It has great pickup off the line it is a very stable vehicle, and very comfortable the drive,I would recomend it to everybody,Ithas classy styling of a car and the guts of an SUV.

  • Nice piece of Italian glass. - 2005 Nissan Murano

Very feature laden: Nav, Intelligent Key, memory heated seats, rear backup video monitor, Sat. radio...quite a few "nice to haves". Does not "feel" like a top heavy SUV, not tippy in the turns. I have no kids so room is immense to me, easy to get to items in the rear with seat fold down levers/lightweight hatch. Rear seats tilt for added comfort for your family/friends. Smooth ride considering it is an SUV. If your a geek like me and value this combo over utilty...give her a test ride. Dont get Edmunds dislike of the tranny, its not a top fuel dragster...its like its not even there! no harsh shifts...just seamless shifts...very nice indeed.

  • Exactly what I expected..... - 2005 Nissan Murano

Bought in early 2004 and I have had very few problems. Nissan replaced the electronic throttle controller in summer of 2004 but since than it ran like a dream.

  • Sporty Luxury - 2005 Nissan Murano
    By -

This car is pretty luxurious for not being a "luxury car." The 245hp is quite nice, especially compared to my last car -- a 150hp Honda. I never thought that an SUV could be fun to drive, but thanks to the power, its sure fun to stomp on the accelerator! The CVT helps provide an amazingly smooth ride without lurching for gear changes. The exterior styling turns heads, and the HID lamps really light up the road ahead. The height of the cabin is perfect for an effortless entrance and egress, while the leather heated seats are soft to the touch, but firm in support. The interior is quite spacious and with real aluminum trim gives the feel of sporty luxury.
