Overview & Reviews
All new for 1995, the excellent Maxima receives few changes for 1996. A four-way power passenger seat is available, a new center console cupholder will hold a Big Gulp and two new colors grace the Maxima's decidedly dull flanks. Taillights are as ugly as ever.

One of the best cars in the market. - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By VET - September 4 - 10:00 amI bought this car (1996 Maxima GLE) from a dealership in Sep 2000. It had 48K miles on it. Currently my car has 199000 miles on it and Iam about to trade (Dealer agreed to pay $3000 without breaking a sweat)this in with a new maxima. All I have done is change oil every 3000 miles and ofcourse change tyres and brake pads etc. Maximas have arguably the best V6 of any sedan in the market. And the car is extemely reliable. It gives 24-25 mpg in a 70/30 mix of highway/city driving, which is not bad at all considering its power.

Terrific value and FUN - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By rob - August 16 - 2:03 amBought new in late 96 and have enjoyed this car every day I drive it! Smooth and powerful engine, quiet, decent gas mileage ~24 mpg, reliable and fun to drive. What more could you ask for? Also, very cheap to maintain as it has a timing CHAIN not belt. I feel that these older models had better quality materials than subsequent years, as Nissan ran into trouble not long afterwards and lowered material quality to cut costs. I know because the wife has an 00 Maxima and the interior materials used are of a lower quality.

Still crazy after all these years! - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By Valenti - March 23 - 2:00 amOrdered from factory for(rare) 5 speed. (Replaced my 1988 Legend 5 speed.) Reliability has been rock solid. Finally put front brakes at 120k, still has original clutch! Only mechanical problem has been check engine light issue--common to this model. Still drives like its brand new. Guess thats why Im still crazy about it...

I cant give up my maxima!!!! - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By maxlover - January 22 - 9:13 pmthis is truly the best vehicle ever made. I bought mine in April 2000 with 39K miles now in Dec 2010 i have 237K miles and the car still drives like its new!!!! I have since finished college, finished medical school, gotten married and had two kids and the car is still running strong. The key to the cars success is regular maintenance. On average I have spent $2000/year since my extended warranty run out at 100K miles. In short, I would but the exact same car again if I could get it at 0miles. I hope my next nissan will be this good.

Fun has Four Doors - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By DDW - January 9 - 4:40 amI sold my 1996 Lexus LS 400 and bought this Maxima. Sounds crazy, doesnt it? This car has most of the amenities of the Lexus like leather, sunroof, Bose stereo, etc but is infinitely more entertaining to drive. I have a 5-Speed SE model which has a quoted 0-60 time of just 6.6 seconds. The steering is light but the car responds willingly. The engine is incredibly refined and has torque at virtually any RPM. In mixed driving Im averaging nearly 33 mpg thanks to the manual transmission (I do a lot of coasting). It has more room inside than its compact exterior suggests and has better visibility than anything sold on the market today. This is a lot of driving enjoyment for just $2500

Maxine - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By Ericba13 - November 12 - 2:00 amI love my Maxima. The rear is slightly ugly but after 6 years, Im used to it. The car handles well, brakes are solid, and the car has solid power. I picked mine up for around 20K, and there was nothing out there at the time that couldve given me the size, reliability, power, and pure fun of a Maxima for that price.

GOOD - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By maxima-nissan - September 13 - 2:00 amI like the vehicle. The drive is very smooth. The engine pickup is excellent. At 30,000 miles, I replaced the windwasher motor.(it was covered under warranty). I have to replace the front struts at 45,000. I have to replace the front brakes at 45,000 at Midas. This was a mistake to go to midas. This damaged my rotors in 1 year. I have to replace front rotors. I replaced break lines on the rear and also break pads. I replaced back struts. Other tahn these the vehicle is running smooth now. I hope it will last for sometime. The mileage now is 88,000.

Buy a Maxima - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By the maxima lover - September 2 - 10:00 amMy maxima has 135,000 miles on it and i have never had a problem with it. If you change the oil every 3,000 miles it will last forever. The engine is quick, and powerful. Definetly go with the leather seats, as the fabric smell after 100K. I have upgraded the audio system very easily. No cutting or re- wiring, just pop the new speakers right in. The stock speakers suck if you did not get the Bose option. I just bought a new 2002 maxima and i luv it!!!

Great Car - 1996 Nissan Maxima
By snow0221 - June 30 - 1:06 pmI recently bought a Maxima SE in a stick shift, very hard to find! It has about 75,000 miles but runs perfect. The acceleration is great, the mechanics are flawless, and the fuel economy is amazing.
