Overview & Reviews
The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.
- Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
- Some small, oddly arranged controls.

Nissan Maxima - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By kirsten_046 - February 11 - 11:41 pmI was so excited when I bought this car Ive always had a Nissan and they never let me down. I loved the double sun roof and the previous owner had "tricked" it out so it was all fancy. I bought it with 130,000 miles on it which was quite a bit but it was running well! But then after about 20,000 miles the key kept getting stuck in the ignition, the CD player skips everything and cuts out, takes a few times to actually start the car and now it has trouble switching gears AND I was driving a few days ago and it totally turned on in the middle of the road; steering wheel locked, gas didnt work, lights and everything went off (had to turn it off then back on again). Nissan has let me down.

Oil Consumption - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By iliveforthis - February 8 - 1:43 pmI have a 6 speed and I am in LOVE with it. Very powerful but I still stall sometimes cuz the engine is so quiet. Not a bad thing. Has every option imaginable, including a heated steering wheel (very nice). Love the style of the car, black on black with tinted windows and 20" black rims. Only problem with the car is that it hit 80k and Im burning a quart and a half of oil per 1,000 miles. Thats 50% more than acceptable. That is huge for a luxury sedan from Nissan. Have heard the same complaints from others at 80k and no one wants to do anything about it. Besides the oil, I love everything else about it. Not bad on gas either, 6th gear is beautiful on highway.

Tried Nissan over Honda - Big Mistake - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Dean Hoffman - January 30 - 10:00 amThe looks of the Maxima attracted me, and most of the reviews were postive, so I made a leap of faith and purchased a Nissan for the 1st time. What a mistake. Except for its good looks, this car rides like a truck, the wheels vibrate at unacceptable levels between 50 and 60 mph and dealer wont fix (this is "normal" for this car), and has tremendous torque steering issues when accelerating from a stop. Also the gas mileage is less than expected 22 on the highway, and I average 72 mph, and you cant park this thing in a tight spot, bacause you need more turning space than a HUMMER. Anyone want to trade for an Accord? Sorry Honda, but I will be back!

Sweet - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Very Impressed - January 21 - 10:00 am500 miles ago I stepped into this awesome machine...the looks...the feel...the power...all great. Loaded with the driver preferred package, to me this car is better than the G-35 and CTS...and for thousands less $$$. Without fail, when Im drifting people ask me about the car. My only complaint is that I cannot keep my foot off the gas peddle, feeling the cars immediate response as I zoooooom down the road.

Could this be love? - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Grafiker - January 4 - 2:00 amIts been exactly a week since my sweet new Spirited Bronze SE automatic with Frost leather and Skyview roof came home with me. Its an admittedly short review period, I know, but long enough for me to say with conviction that Im smitten. In fact, I think it may be the best car Ive ever owned, and that in the face of some pretty stiff competition: two Acura Legends, a Saab 900 SPG turbo, and a Supra. Drive it and youll be a believer.

MAXIMUM MAXIMA! - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By jaw431 - January 4 - 2:00 amWhat a great car! I previously owned a 1997 Maxima and loved it. I just turned in a Lexus IS300 and loved that too. But this is everything I had in the Lexus in a more sizeable and comfortable performance sedan. Couldnt believe it could come with all the options I had in the Lexus. Exceptional comfort plus power.
