This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

I only own the vehicle for about 3 weeks so far but have been thoroughly impressed already. The "fun to drive" factor is very high with all that power under the hood with what seems to be a good match in the suspension as well. It corners flat, and the engine pulls strong at any speed. The interior is unique. The heated leather seats and suede pannels on the doors compliment each other nicely (classy and unique). The Bose stereo is great. The "skyview" roof is also a nice feature.

Shockingly quick with occasional tugs- of-war with torque steer. My third Maxima (86,90). The 90 was problem free and pristine after 14 years. Depreciation less than $1k/yr. It took a while to get comfortable on trip until I got lumbar right. Dash and console are kinda cheesey. Armrest is flimsy. Lotsa plastic. LCD display has low resolution and monotone. Outdated technology. Gimme a break with the trendy 3 pod and look of aluminum. The grille should be covered around women and children. Its ooogly. Finally a 5 speed auto on the SL. A steal at the price theyre going for. Sprachen sie Japonese? You bet!

I love it. This car is very powerful. It is more fun to drive on the highway than in city traffic. If you want near luxury and speed this is the car.

  • Sweet! - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Ive owned this car for a week and am loving it more every day. I got a Liquid Silver SL with light grey interior. It has tons of power, the 4- speed automatic is very responsive and you really get pressed back in your seat when you floor it. Extremely fun to drive. Im 64" and love the spacious interior. Plenty of leg/head room in the back seat. Top-quality leather, comfortable seats. Sophisticated yet practical interior. Minor issues: torque-steer, turning radius. Tons of extras on the SL are sweet. My friends love it. I love it. A fantastic car at any price, but a steal for the $28.5K i paid for it. Highly recommended, especially for tall folks.

1st off, kudos to Pomoco Nissan of Hampton VA. From start to finsh, they provided me with a GREAT buying experience! My SE has the Elite Package, with Burnt Orange Leather! Beautiful!! My buddy with a S430 borrowed it for a couple of hours, and said "I got, more looks in your Max then I do in my Benz"! Hes not happy.LOL! I live in a resort city, and while cruising the strip, nearly every other car had a comment! And its quick!

This is my 3rd Max and it is hands down the best one Ive owned. I also own 1996 Gle. Nissan has out done themselves with this model. Me and wife fight over who is going to drive it next.

  • Great Car only 1 fault - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Great Car, lots of space, fun to drive. Premium stero with XM is a blast. Only negative is the turning radius. This took me by surprise. I have had larger cars that could turn around much better. THis needs to be improved. I looked at cars that were twice the price and they did not match up to the Maxima.
