This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

Bought car at 89K miles & replaced timing chains & transmission 2 weeks after(cost=$5k)& then replaced oil cooler gasket.Burns over 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles.Car now has 145k miles and Im replacing the left Control Arm & brakes & rotors due to the damage. Dealer said it was normal for this car to burn this much oil.It is not leaking oil.Nissan was great about honoring the 2 recalls & fixed them no problem. The steering column vibrates roughly when driving even when alignment is done & balanced tires.Bought new Michelin Primacy tires which helped some. The turning radius is horrible. Car is super comfy& roomy for long trips.Love the style & sporty but 2 expensive 2 keep buying oil.

Ive had this car for a week and half and I find myself making excuses to go out and drive it. Everytime I open up the garage door and see the rear of the car with it 4 chrome tipped exhaust pipes, I go "oh yeah!" and I get an automatic grin on my face. Excellent smooth ride, lots of power, nice comfortable interior, grippy handling, and great fun to drive. Love the color (spirited bronze) which seems to change in different light. I notice people looking but Canadians are a little too shy to say something.

I have the SE with the driver preferred package and love the power and handling. The inside comfort is terrific and I love the new body style, the Maxima hasnt looked this good since 89-94 version. Chose it over Acura TLS (no contest) and G35 (very sweet, but had ergonomic issues inside). There is a slight underbody buzz when upshifting from 1st to 2nd at slow acceleration. Probably a heat shield or underbody panel needs to be more tightly secured. I dont hear it when I punch it, so until I take it in for its first service, the solution is obvious. :-)

I have had my Spirited Bronze SE for over 6 months and i am totally satisfied. This is a company car, I had lots of options and drove the competition, but chose the Maxima. It seems that everone I know wants to drive it. I was so impressed that I went out the next day and bought my wife an 04 Quest. Great engine, and acceleration in both vehicles.

The Nissan Maxima gives you the speed and power of a sports car. It is the most powerful in regards to speed as any car I have been in or have driven

I have had this car for almost 5 months and it is wonderful. Yesterday somone talking on a cell phone slammed in the back of my car. Much to my surprise there was no damage not even a scratch. This car should have five stars for back bumper impact.

I saw this car while driving past the dealer and stopped in to take a look. I loved the car from the 1st day and ended up buying the SE model. The car had many great features but it rode much too hard for my wife and me. After about 3 months and much discusion I was able to get a fair price from the dealer for a trade to the SL. WOW what a great car. It is very comfortable and handles like a dream. I have a problem keeping down to the speed limit on the highways, it just wants to sail along. There are many great features on this vehicle but the automatic entry and exit is one I truly appreciate. I have had all the routine service performed by Nissan, they have been excellent.

First Ill confirm the complaints others had: 3 peeling grilles replaced under warranty before I gave up, turning radius make this care a bear to park, plastic trim pieces in interior are easily scratched. The final blow for me: Im burning 1 qt oil/750 miles. I do frequent oil changes and have never abused the car. I noticed the problem at around 65K and now have 80K. Dealer says, "sorry out of warranty".
