This is our 3rd Nissan, first 2 (93 Max Gxe, 95 Altima GXE) were leased. The current 99 Max GLE was purchased. Has 55K mi and not a single problem. The car still looks and runs like the day it left the showroom. No plans to replace any time soon!

Only problem I have had is faulty oxygen sensor. Have had an emmision problem in models 1992 and 1996 and now the 1999. Dealer Hyannis Nissan refuses to correct problem because over warranty even though I have complaind about problem before warranty ran out. Excuse was that their computer was down until recently.

  • Best Car ever owned - 1999 Nissan Maxima

This will be the last day driving the best car I have ever owned. The Maxima (Mimo for nickname) has flawlessly given everything I ever asked from it. The engine and torque are in perfect balance in every gear. Need to get up to 60 mph in third in order to get on the highway. Just slightly depress pedal half way and feel the hand of God push you back into your seat. This car was/is a thoroughbred race horse. It never hiccuped while making a 800 mile road trip while on cruise control or any trip for that matter. I managed to get 170K on the original clutch! And now after 197765 miles it still gets about 28mpg on the highway. It is time to trade in and get a car for the whole family. Thnx Mimo

I have really enjoyed my Maxima. Its got one of the best, if the not the best V6 there is (or was in 1999). Ive only had minor problems with it. These problems were: Air Blower in car makes a whistling noise, drivers seat creaks a little, and the micro-chip keys can be erased if put on the counter in a store like Target or Walmart (which then requires a tow($75)and key re- coding at Nissan($40). I never had any major problems. Overall, its a great car that Im going to keep even after its paid off.

  • The working mans luxury car - 1999 Nissan Maxima

I bought this car in 2000 in CA with ~42k miles. Now 107k miles. Black SE model with cloth seats and sunroof being the major options. The A/C delivered cold air in the deserts of the southwest. The heater delivers heat in minus 20 degrees cold of Alaska. I did experience one ignition coil to die on me. Since I deal with a lot of stop and go traffic, I have gone through 2 sets of brakes and rotors front and back (due to size of car). Besides that, normal maintenance. I averaged 18.5 / 24 mpg city/Hwy in CA. In AK, I average 20mpg/26mpg. If I were to move back to the gulf coast, I can expect 22mpg/29mpg. Regional gas makes a difference. I plan to keep this car to over 200k miles.

Experience wonderful. Gutsy 5 speed with lot of torque. Extremely confortable on long trips and drives like a dream. Car is very roomy and controls are well laid out and gages are easy to read.

Best car I have ever owned, period. This car is ultra smooth, and with the 5-speed, tons of power. The engine idles amazingly, fuel economy is great for a V6, and everything feels solid. Great handling, great engine sound with a cold-air intake. So much fun to drive, it is a joy. I always look forward to going somewhere because I know I get to drive this car. Very rewarding. Bose stereo is awesome and clear. Have not had any coil problems, but small problem if it does happen (Accords drop transmissions, Camrys interior falls apart). No car is perfect, but this is darn close. I bought for $17K with 17,000 miles, and its completely loaded. $28K sticker. Flew 800 miles to Oklahoma!

  • Great Car - 1999 Nissan Maxima

My 1999 Nissan Maxima is a great car. I bought it about two years ago and have not regretted it. I had the notorious problem with the coil packs at about 68,000 miles along with the knock sensor. Those repairs cost me about $1,300 and recently I had to replace all four tires again and replace the front struts because of a front-end issue which cost me about $1,200. For some reason the car eats tires but its most likely due to my driving habits. Driving the car is still a pleasure. It has quiet road manners and excellent performance. The engine is still quiet and serene, but will rocket off at your command. Just replace the oil when your supposed to and use premium gas and the Maxima will not dissapoint.

  • I heart VQ30DE!!!!! (maxima motor) - 1999 Nissan Maxima

I actually sold my 2nd maxima last year, but wanted to share my experience. First and foremost, there is so much to be said about the amazing 3.0 v6 standard in every maxima. Though 190 hp does not sound like much, this car will beat v8 muscle cars! Thats right! I owned both in 5 speed configurations, and have mixed reviews on the manual tranny...quality seems somewhat subpar for nissan....clutch is weak and expensive to replace. Clutch hydraulics gave me problems in both my 97 and 99. Transmission is questionable, but luckily never gave out on me. I recommend the 98 model, as the 99s nearly all have coil pack issues that are aggrivating. Maxima is a heck of a good all around car.
