This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

  • Beware - 2004 Nissan Maxima

I purchased the vehicle after driving the SL. The handling is totally different on the SE. Its been in the shop 3 times as you brakes pull to the left. It had the basic radio which has a real tinney sound to it. I think thetires ( goodyears) were not designed for the car.having an Ols Intriguefor 5 years with the same tires the Olds handled much better. In a corner it the front ends leans into it making the car handle very funny.

Exellent car to drive: fast, smooth, quick off the line. The ride is luxurious and tight at the same time. Visibility is something to get used to, as well as some of the design features (grille, dash/instrument pannel - edges get cut off by the steering wheel)... but looks great from the side and the rear! Huge on the inside and the outside. Plenty of room for the rear passengers, and a nice spacious trunk. Overall - a very nice car, although, somewhat overpriced... there come the rebates.

I took delivery of my 04 SE 6sp manual last week...and have logged nearly 1000 miles so far. I am truly amazed by the silky smooth power delivery from this engine. It is so torquey that around town it easily works as a four speed..meaning that I shift 1-3-5- 6...the engine is so smooth...so silky..that there is no vibration at all...in fact I have frequent looked down at the tach to notice that I need to upshift. I love how this engine feels so refined and smooth in all RPM ranges.

Weve traded up from a Accord V6, which gave us 5 years of trouble free driving and comfort. This Maxima however, is a large step up with its road hugging ability, power and performance, close attention to detail in the finish, attractive design and the comfort provided both driver and passengers. Whether the buying public finds this gem, well have to wait and see. Both my wife and I are finding it one of the best vehicles weve owned.

This is the 6th Nissan Maxima I have owned since 1985. I commend the design team at Nissan for continually improving the Maxima every model year. I added a number of SL options to my new SE so I have the best of both worlds. The performance and style of the 04 Maxima still make it the perfect 4 door sports car!

I do not have extensive experience with this car yet as I just bought it a week ago, but I can tell you that so far my heart races when I look at and drive this sporty sedan. Inside and out it is loaded with great quality materials. My sister has an 03 and has been happy with it as well so that helped my decision. Im very impressed so far. I had considered a loaded Altima but for only a few thousand more I got a more upscaled vehicle with great style, not that the Altima doesnt deserve respect also. Its a beautiful vehicle as well. Im a single dad but I still like to hit the twisties every now and then. This car will do it. Grade A+

Just acquired a new 2004 SE 3.5 and absolutely love it. Traded in 2000 Maxima. I thought I had it good in the 2000. The 2004 is so powerful and the options you can get for the price is amazing.

  • Great vehicle for the $ - 2004 Nissan Maxima

This is my second Maxima and Ive owned this model for 3 yrs. Goodyear replaced the OE tires and outside of the basic maintenance, the car has given me no problems. Would recommend this particular Nissan to anyone.

  • Simply flimsy (looks can be deceiving - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I just purchased a 2004 Nissan Maxima. I am pretty upset because of the poor flimsy body. The car is not solid, and the quality of material is so cheap. The car thus is reliable but lacks the German craftsmanship in every aspect; especially in the suspension, interior quality, and the solidness. It seems that Nissan attempted to make this car out of aluminum like metal all the way around.
