Overview & Reviews
The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.
- Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
- Some small, oddly arranged controls.

only problems - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By marian TIGANU - November 22 - 6:40 amThe car look great but the praise stops there. I spent over $5000 in repairs. ABS replaced (@2500), bearings wheel ($1000) axle shaft ($500), fuel rail ($450) to name just a few. I spend more time dealing with the problems of this car than with any other car I owned, and I have quite a few The dealership service was very unprofessional and rough, All in all I wouldnt recommend this car to anybody to buy.

4th Nissan - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By cmurphy - November 21 - 10:00 amThis is our 4th Nissan and second Maxima. It seems each new model we purchase has become more reliable than the last. We just sold a 2001 Maxima,72000 miles, never required any dealer repair. I Just bought this one yesterday (2004 liquid silver SE) and had to test the now expected power to avoid another driver turning from the wrong lane! The Max performed like a dream. My emotional attachment to these cars is so bad that we no longer trade them in...they are sold to another Max fanatic who will give them a good retirement home :-) Yes...my husband IS threatening counseling.

Oustanding car - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Marsh80 - November 21 - 10:00 amSo you have read the poor reviews of this vehicle. These are inital quality that have all been resolved or handled under warranty by dealer. I have not experienced any of the quality issues since mine was built 5/04. Only quality issue I have is the interior scratches easily. This has been replaced for 05 and I can have my dealer replace mine under warranty. This car is very quick. Must check spedo because it goes up faster than you think. MPG avg 20 city, 29 HW. Sport suspension feels softer than some luxury cars. No mistaken identity. Stands out among many look- alike cars out there. Same engine as 350Z & as reliable as previous Nissan motors. Lots of fun

First & Last - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By j. simms - November 9 - 3:00 amThis is my first Nissan and probably the last. I have had many nuisance problems, like oil drips after each oil change. Latest shock is A/C Evaporator leaking and needs to be replaced ($1,500). At 41K miles this is unbelievable! The only sympathy from dealer is s---happens! Good bye Nissan J.S.

04Max - Great - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Rand - November 7 - 10:00 amHave Silver SE with Driver Preferred , VDC ,Sunroof ,mats and guards. What a great car. this is my 4th Max SE and is by far the best handling of them all. I will say that build quality is somewhat worse then my previous Maximas. Minor Shimmy in steering , wheels ned to be balanced , small paint problem. Gas milage has been around 23.5 combined driving. My people look and like what they see. Very quiet running car.

Its all about the VQ - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By braddock - October 31 - 10:00 amThis is a sexy car, with an awesome rear end, but only mediocre from the front. The engine is the velvety smooth 3.5 VQ V-6. It has hustle to spare, and will out perform similiar vehicles in its category. The ride on the SE is very firm, and most road imperfections are felt. It handles very nice, and is comodeous inside. The skyview is cool, but no moonroof.

Awesome Vehicle / Bad Transmission - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By OK - October 29 - 10:00 amI purchased this car in October 2008, with 62,000. The car is very roomy, sleek, and sexy. By the way it is very fast for a V6 sedan. Everything was fine until about 85,000, and I noticed a jerking when driving after awhile. I took it into the dealer, and they said that they feel the jerking, but the warranty that I purchased didnt want to fix it right away, they recommended that I do a transmission flush, which I did. As soon as I left the lot, the jerking reoccurred, I drove it till the transmission got worst, took it back and the warranty will NOW replace the transmission. Also the air conditioner went out, motor mounts were shot also. All this under 100,000, thank goodness.

King of the midsize sedan - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Lyon - October 19 - 2:00 amSimply marvelous, it handles and accelerates like a $50K car is supposed to and is comfortable at any speed. Interior design, comfort and amenities are of entry level luxury car standards. The 320watt 8 speaker Bose audio system is the best there is this side of $30K. Still, its not the greatest car ever, there are faster cars, more luxurious cars, more spacious, even better looking cars, and certainly more practical cars, but none with a better combination of all these attributes anywhere near the Maximas price range, and thats why the Max is king! Also why I traded my 03 3.2 Acura TL w/ 14800 mi.
